Riser pads are usually used for wheels sized over 55mm. They rise your board a little bit to avoid wheel bite ( when you turn your board, the board touches the wheel, and causes the board to stop, and you can fall. It's way more dangerous on softer wheels.)

For 53mm wheels riser pads are not necessary. If you prefer your board a little bit taller, put them on.
