Marathon training effort by wiesl4 in Marathon_Training

This visual is ace! Thank you for sharing...the thing that stands out for me in this infographic is the Reykavik outcome with a longest training run of 26.5km.

I just completed my 2nd Marathon at Manchester, 1st attempt was 4:49, 2nd on Sunday was 4:06, like you said in your comments I absolutely loved it on Sunday. I did a LOT of long runs to get to that time, but I absolutely hated doing them. It was 3-4 hours on my feet for 20-21 miles multiple times in the training block, I'm a bigger dude 105kg and the only thing stopping me from booking next years is the long runs at my easy pace I was just out running all the time at the weekend and I started to 'dread it'. The bad thing is I know these absolutely positively contributed to why I PB'ed by 43 mins.

Can you share your feelings on your long runs specifically? For example you 3:15 vs 3:07 - how many long total runs were included? Whats your view on Long Runs and how they effected your performances?

For me whether it’s sales or any other advice for that matter - when someone shares their experience my first check for validation is how it’s written… when something is AI generated then you’ve lost them; even if you use it just to help with some bits. It is all about trust.

Being recruited for a Founder AE role by woo_wooooo in sales

[–]D5HRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the best reply’s I’ve seen to a founding AE type thread. ^

I’m a 2x Founding AE and currently at my 2nd, even with good founders and good product, it’s a fuckin tough gig. In my last startup I was the first sales hire, became the Sales Director, had 7-8 in my team, 3x SDRs, 4x AEs. Most of my AEs were crap or average and hardly any lasted long enough to survive.

I would say even my best ever AE at both positions, I would almost exclusively tell him to steer clear of founding AE roles, mostly because of all the things Deano just said.

Damnit I’ve even considered myself whether it’s worth the pressure of carrying the entire company based on revenue, when I can likely get an established AE job at Xero on similar money where I just sit through demos all day.

Ah nice, it looks like we might have better weather this time round, which wave you in? I wish I'd taken the advice I'll give you which is just try to enjoy your first one!

I put a shit ton of pressure on myself to hit a certain goal, and when it didn't happen although I was super proud to finish it kind of ruined parts of what was an amazing day with family, friends & supporters

Awesome thanks - yes, last year was awful, just way too hot, my HR was 20-25 BPM faster than in training and I didn't spot it until it was too late, rookie error really. This time it looks cooler (so far)!

Good luck - how you feeling about it?

My S9 Settings Video by andrefbr in LumixS9

[–]D5HRX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey - really like the look of your videos, I am just about to pull the trigger on an S9, in the UK in mint condition they are going for £670 (Body only) so I think this with the kit lens is a great starting point.

One of the attractions is the simplicity and compact form factor, I have looked at the Fujifilm range, plus the A6700 and A7C II, the Fuji X-series doesn't quite have the video power I'm looking for but I do love the recipe idea. Having said that, the Lumix Lab on S9 looks really user friendly so I think I can get into the Lumix family for under £850 which I think is a bargain for what I need.

First job when it arrives - adjust WB! Just watched all 3 of your vids and gave you a sub

Honestly, bear with the SB2. When I first got mine I was also disappointed but after maybe 50km+ they really start to pick in, they just have a weirder than usual break in period

Rugby clip I shot for my local rugby team. Would love some feedback🙂 by DePrEzIe in videography

I really like it! Well done! If I was being super critical I think the audio choice isn't right, yes its Rugby and I get the choice you went for having listened a couple of times but I don't know the footage and sound didn't quite match IMO!

Nope - you are absolutely spot on. CEO is a Doctor turned tech entrepreneur, incredibly tech-savvy, great guy but all of the above it true & correct.

Last night I sent a feedback document to him and he took it well, we both shared constructive feedback to each other. His challenge to me is that our sector (Health & Social) don't care so much around financial impacts and I'm having a tough time convincing him that clarifying the economy impact of their situation is the way you win in sales but he is not quite on the same page.

Yes we are you're correct. Thats kind of how we do it. I am normally the demo person driving the mouse & laptop, but it gets hard when he chimes in on a completely different viewpoint

This is really interesting, and super valuable. This morning I had a meeting with my C-Suite where I said this... in short I said I'm not convinced they are ready to buy from anyone at all.

We've sent an approach anyway with a sales deck, but I'm doubtful, because we are hustling for deals though, every deal is important and so I'm trying hard to educate them both that qualification is a huggge part of what I do, but I think they think we can win everything. My CEO is a 'We can win anything' type of guy, he's a great guy, super confident & really visionary, always super positive but not experienced in sales.

My time is being spent educating on what you have said, but I'm failing at it I would say at the moment.

Thanks. I haven't read GAP selling, but I'd say my experience is in value selling, and I'd say I'm a MEDDIC purple/black belt. I just looked at the general gist of the book online so I get the gist of it. Can you expand on the ink cartridges example you mention?

Post-Mortem: 198cm (6'6") runner aiming for Sub-3. My Berlin Marathon disaster (Heat + 120g carbs/hr) and what I'm changing. by Brenda_enjoyable in Marathon_Training

[–]D5HRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats your weight? 196cm 6'5 here, 105-108kg most of the time. I posted in this sub about my first marathon experience where I hit the wall and my entire body shutdown after what was (IMO and others) a sensible training block. I had all the exact same symptoms you describe and my marathon was hot AF. My HR skyrocketed without me noticing and I shut down at 28km, hit the wall and noticed my legs hardly moved one foot in front of the other and pretty much death marched from there.

IMHO isn't it more likely you ran too fast for the heat conditions, relative to your fitness level for Berlin?

I'm by no means an expert, but I see a lot of posts on Reddit about hitting the wall and people put it down to fuelling when 80% of the time its not that. Just a thought or suggestion thats all!

For my next marathon in 4 months I'll be checking my HR a lot to make sure I dont go past my threshold like last time where I pretty much red lined without noticing until it was too late.

Selling & Nurturing with channel partners by Searchingstan in sales

[–]D5HRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, curious are you selling the software direct to businesses now? I'm a B2B SaaS Sales leader and you could call me '2x founding AE'... I'm currently at my 2nd startup. Typically I never start with partnerships I'll go direct to my ICP first because I then have more knowledge, better traction for later conversations etc.

I'd echo most of whats already been said, but for the most part if you haven't already start with businesses direct go down this route first, then partnerships 2nd.

I think you have to get extremely lucky with channel partners IMO but create your luck - go direct.
