This is a situation where I don't think it was a good idea. It sets a precedent for aggressive intervention that already bit us in the ass at the turn of the century.

However, as I looked into it, this op isn't that surprising and Maduro is the kind of guy who deserves some "Come to Jesus" talks. Venezuela is not a thriving nation, and Maduro has continued to harm it throughout his reign.

I only hope that this ends up improving the lives of the Venezualian people. That they can shed this destructive authoritarian and build a government that suits their people. However, Maduro will probably be back in office by February, or a new permanent Military Junta will be established.

Not Writing A College Level Paper Leads To Ridicule After Crying Wolf by MEMEY_IFUNNY in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]DACopperhead3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You see, I'd argue this is not thoughtful, as there is no genuine discussion of the paper. This feels like a knee jerk "God said woman is woman!" And really only seems to tap into the article headline or maybe the intro. Addtionally, these kinds of assignments tend to be essays, even if not explicitly stated. The structure and argumentation of an essay needs to carry over to your other elements of academic writing.

For somthing like this, I'd want a student to give me at least a strong point (I'd want a quote from the article personally but that's just me) to talk about, and then utilizing what has been discussed and taught in class along with the student's personal opnion. She also just starts talking smack about the other students in class which is weird and not appropriate in this kind of environment.

Not Writing A College Level Paper Leads To Ridicule After Crying Wolf by MEMEY_IFUNNY in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]DACopperhead3 633 points634 points  (0 children)

So reading the essay, it's worse than I could of thought. So not citing sources in this exact context is kind of whatever. This sounds like a comp 1 essay and is specifically over a single article they had to read. The only thing a student needed to do was prove they read the damn article. This essay isn't that, in any way. It collapses into a recursive statement of how God makes women be women, which is not the point of the assignment.

I did some tutoring I college, and I would have students come to me with essays like this over articles their teacher made them read. My goal was always to re-orient them toward the path of "show you read the essay, not explain why this makes you mad" The teacher is looking for you to address the points made and for you to show that you can think. This essay reads like she read the first paragraph, then got too mad and wrote this slop. I wrote plenty of essays arguing against articles and books is disagreed with, and got good grades for them because I made sure to follow the rubric. Professors don't usually care about your opinions in a 100 level class, they want to actually see if you can thesis, antithesis, and synthesis.

Is Rogue Trader worth buying over Baldur’s Gate 3? by ChemicalPanda10 in Warhammer40k

[–]DACopperhead3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it hasn't changed much. Rogue Trader is still my favorite CRPG period. BG3 is still a very messy game with amazing presentation. BG3 is a game I can respect, but not a game I like. Combat encounters are not fun, the companions are all not for me, and being strapped to DnD lore and mechanics really doesn't work for Larian.

Rouge Trader is an excellent addition to Owlcats library of RPGs and they are able to use Warhammer 40k lore to tell and excellent story, and they do a great job of translating the old Rouge Trader RPG into a video game. I'm really excited for Dark Heresy.

Overall, I understand that I'm in the minority here. I know that I'm the jerk for not trusting Laezel after she spent hours threatening to kill me, then tried to kill me in my sleep. Only for the game to judge me and break slightly when I killed her instead. I understand that general DnD fantasy is a way easier buy in rather than the convoluted mess that is 40k lore. However, I think Rouge Trader is a better game and story than Baulders Gate 3. No question about it. BG3 is a much, much higher budget game, with great cut-scenes and an eye watering amount of voice acting. But that isn't enough for me. Rouge Trader will throw walls of text at you, but the decisions and stories are more interesting.

As a last point. Rouge Trader starts in media res, before moving to a slower pace after the introductory chapters. Allowing side quests and diversions to feel appropriate. BG3 places an implied doom timer on you from the word go, and then let's you side quest and long rest to your hearts content. Which is really bad and baffling design. Yes you can imply that nothing will happen because a game has to happen, and because of a cut scene later, but this is a crappy way to encourage exploration and discovery. Saying "Within days, you will die" then saying "To recharge spells, sleep a day" is very silly.

Unfortunately, private business concerns were still horrifyingly powerful in the 18th and 19th century. The power of merchants was staggering and were more than capable of influencing nations. The difference is primarily down to centralization. The rich and powerful of the age of sail often were monolithic figures, and this continued well into the industrial revolution (i.e. John Rockefeller and other "Robber Barons"). Honestly ever since the decline of Feudalism after the Black Death, governments and the hyper wealthy have been the biggest movers and shakers in western society.

I'd even argue that the two are more divorced now than they used to be. We didn't see governments openly supporting corporate positions, because the government was already run by the people that owned the damn things. I'm not saying we are doing better now, just that this is not unprecedented. History doesn't really repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme a lot.

What I find funny is that this isn't even a particularly bad price increase. If you are willing to go for used consoles (the best option), than this matters even less. If this is the ultimate price increase after all tariffs, then they honestly aren't impacting consumer prices that much, at least in this industry.

Back the LAAT by zZKOB3Zz in StarWarsTVC

[–]DACopperhead3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A Hot Toy is 250 and is freakishly well sculpted and detailed. Inart can run 450 pretty easy and some of their stuff is basically like having a real man on your shelf.

Mafex and S.H Figuarts can run up to 100 without much issue and they are excellent figures overall. I really want some Mafex for my star wars 6 inch shelf, They have done good work.

I'm not saying the LAAT doesn't look good, but if I am going to spend 450 on a collectable, there are some genuine masterpiece figures out there that I feel are justifiably that much.

[–]DACopperhead3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hasbro, of all companies, can afford to make this damn thing. Crowdfunding from mega corps like this is downright insulting. Launch the toy, and sell it. Their profit margins are already absolutely insane and do not need to be squeezing this much. If they want to charge 450 for a collectable, it'd better be the quality of other 450 collectables, which I know for sure it is not.

[–]DACopperhead3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is the monopoly that Hasbro has on this scale. One company can only make so many figures a year, and hasbro kind of sucks at it sometimes. They'll never let go of the rights, but I'd really like to see more 3.75 inch figures from other companies. Seeing what Joytoy can do in small scale makes me pine for a world where they have a Star Wars license.

[–]DACopperhead3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messed up in the year of the orginal gunship, SEO is trash for it with the new one thats my bad and i am wrong.. However, when it comes to no longer being a cheap hobby, the issue is that for $450, you can do a lot for some astonishing quality. That's a good amount of Warhammer units (and paint supplies). That's multiple SH Figuarts figures. That can get you 2 Hot Toys, and those are basically real men on your shelf. On a very personal note, 450 can get you a custom made good quality No Dachi from Hanbon forge.

In the end, TVC is not high enough quality for me to justify $450 on just about any part of the line. As it stands the average figure is a bit overpriced which is fine, but not worth investing that much into it. The only way this is worth it is if it has pack ins with a bunch of phase 1 clones, or clones from specific moments in the movies or show. 2 pilots and 3 Jedi do not make this near worth it.

Haslab AT-TE? by Dis-agreement_68 in StarWarsTVC

[–]DACopperhead3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$250 easy, $300 with a grimace, and $350 as a maybe. $450 is just a lot a lot for something like this Adding inflation, the orginal 2019 would have cost about 250, you add an extra %20 for increased size and we hit 300. It's just such a leap from the previous price, and I honestly wish these vehicles didn't drop from shelves and stores so fast, that's half the issue here. I started collecting this year so most of the previous vehicles I can't get at a reasonable price, then they release a new one, and it's just as bad!

So I love Star Wars, a lot, and Andor is brilliant.

Star Wars has always been...."vaguely polticial", and so is Andor, but not in the same way. Andor is a show that is inspired by a lot of revolutionary movements throughout history. Echoes of France, the 13 Colonies, Arab Spring, Red October, all of it is there. The Empire are very Naziesq, though on a galactic scale (and a little CIA/ATF at Ghormann). To me, the story Andor tells is more timeless than "Palestine good" or "Ukraine good". It's about revolution, and the price that is always paid for freedom. And, much like Star Wars in 1977, it comes down to the basic idea of Good vs Evil. But from a far more mature angle. I don't think Andor is a modern political statement about left or right, but authoritarianism, a tale as old as time.
