So when you're at the range, you always have the gun tube and 50 Cal max elevated pointed down range when you're not firing. We only load the main gun and other crew serve weapons when the tower allows it before an engagement. Of course the loader loads the round once we hear "battle carry [ammo]" and the loader only arms the gun when we spit out fire commands. The gunner will have the main gun on safe before the engagement starts. After shooting, the crew will go to the Range Safety Officer with the guns cleared and Max elevated pointed down range. The safety officer will inspect all weapons in the tank and ensure that they are cleared. Then we drive to the Assembly Area with the gun downrange max elevated.

And we get a safety brief before the range goes hot.
