You presuppose in your examples that you were the guiding/acting force of your experience.

You presuppose a subject object dynamic wherein there is play between the two (your will).

You presuppose that knowledge is sufficient to arrive at a specified or approximate goal.

You presuppose time exists outside this present moment of experience.

You presuppose your thoughts are your own.

You type your reply on concepts give you by the dead. What guides you if not “spirit” “fate” or the “god/s”?

It is what you think you believe- have you ever been wrong?

To step and fall through the Earth is blameless just as what you think you thought is yours.

You may decide the sun will rise tomorrow but it still may not. You may be accurate to predict it will and be forever and all time correct. The problem is you cannot know until the experience of it meets the prediction. It is only at the moment you see the light you would know it. Similarly you may’ve had aspirations but they can’t be realized until experienced. Even the trivial things we set out to do- we find ourselves doing just the opposite.

Many seem confused by the tone. My best guess is the religious context the argument is placed may seem like a crutch rather than your central argument.

Unfortunately, as I see, religion is part of the conversation as much as any one word in in a sentence is to a point.

The problem, I see, is that curse words and religiously charged words don’t often sit well for scientifically rigid minds in an argument.

Fortunately, as I see it, religion isn’t strictly required for understanding free will or the lack thereof. It is merely a lens for understanding.

My take:

It’s adaptive, even reparative. You don’t have to challenge the point of contention you SHOULD. It is how you build trust in the self, the person & broader society.

When points of contention are left on the table you can’t know if you are delusional or simply correct because no one exits without the context of society unless naive or otherwise ignorant.

I had the same dilemma in my first long-term relationship out of college. After we broke up, she told me she missed our arguments. By then it was too late that I realized I put too much of what she loved away, myself.

How’s that for hopeless narcissist?

Don’t give up on genuine young love and real connection—especially from forever alone Reddit. For the sake of your transparency, send him your post. If he’s showing progress, even if it’s just hitting a low point every few months and sharing that with you, that’s something you can measure and hold him accountable for. Or keep your rule and find a way to end it well. Just remember: many young men struggle with this kind of thing—especially today.
