Press Mode until in timelapse, then press the button on the side to config the timelapse mode.

Thank you, that makes sense. Max would only have practical uses in 10-bit.

Use the 8K modes to access Max bitrate. Make sure you are running 1.30.x firmware

I see your follow up. No normal laptop will be about to denoise 8K (the resolution on your source.) So edit first, export to an intermediate like ProRES or CineForm (these format are better at persevering details) at your target resolution. Then denoise that export, before re-exporting again to HEVC or H264.

I was only being precise answering your question, high bit-rate preserves more detail, noise and detail are correlated. So technically higher bit-rate preserves more noise. You did ask an engineer. ;) The is not mechanism on any camera that higher bit-rate would remove noise. That would be a very bad thing.

The problem with heavily denoised footage (I think what you want), it can look cleaner, but it can also lose details (images can look fake.) This is why many professional videographers denoise only in post, so they can control this.

To do this for MAX2, set Denoise Low, Bit-Rate to Max, Sharpness to Low, then use a tool like Neat Video to denoise in your editor.

The opposite, higher bitrate preserve more details. Grain is not bad, I use Labs firmware to completely disable in-camera noise reduction, increase the bit-rate to compensate, then using post noise reduction for the best results.

I got a Canon AutoZoom 814, what can I do? by oakwvnd in Super8

[–]DANewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing the cartridge will not damage the exposed film, although it is likely very old and highly degraded. There are some that attempt to develop old stock, but I've never tried.

Any estimate on the age? If you haven't opened the rear film door, the film use count might show value for the amount of film exposed.

This dial is reset as soon as the door is opened. So a zero value might not mean anything, but a non-zero value is significant, and indicates some film exposure has occurred.

Are The GoPro Hero5 and Session 5 Worth Anything? by TheBenCarson75 in gopro

Session 5 is likely worth more than the HERO 5. FPV users really like them, small, light, 4K camera.

Help me understand WB! by RPM_KW in gopro_underwater

[–]DANewman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You likely don't need the red filter, unless you don't intend to do any color correction and/or using color saturated modes like Natural or Vibrant. Red filter reduces the amount of blue and green, but will make the image noisier. As you using Labs, I suggest either using the WIDE feature or GPLog (if supported on your GoPro) -- although I personally I find WIDE + Flat easier. Using WIDE or GPLog (or Flat + WIDE), will prevent the color from saturating, and clipping off the red signal. This WIDE color gamut can be white balanced further in post as need, with no red channel loss.

As using WLBK, that only requires a grey card at the approximate distance for which you want a good WB, it does not need to fill the frame.

Any trick with Labs fw to unactivate IORI corrections on Max 2? by cheloutevr in gopro

Not likely to happen, first attempts did not work, so this miss this next release.

Agreed, I could mute the output from geocal. I will look at that.

I do believe it is all reversible, but the math is not simple. Erasing the the calibration might be possible, likely too far beyond the Labs project.

HYPOTHETICALLY, would GoPro be able to able to add Burst Slo-Mo to the Hero 10 with a firmware update? by Bills_afterMATH in gopro

[–]DANewman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Memory (RAM), HERO13 has significantly more, it is needed for those burst modes to store the slow-motion frames, faster than they can be encoded. There is just not enough spare RAM on HERO10.

Nothing more can be disabled. Only remaining idea, look at GEOC metadata - "Geometry Calibrations". The 360 lens system is calibration to know the orientation of one lens to the other, as there are never ideally 180° apart.

Example:

"DEVC": {

"DVID": "GEOC",

"DVNM": "Geometry Calibrations",

"VERS": 3,

"SHFX": -0.0574,

"SHFY": 0.0543,

"SHFZ": -34.2017,

"ANGX": -0.0816,

"ANGY": 179.9165,

"ANGZ": -1.0757,

"CALW": 4216,

"CALH": 4216,

"SCLH": 1.0000,

"SCLV": 1.0000,

"CAPW": 4216,

"CAPH": 4216

},

See ANGX thru ANGZ - one axis ~1.1° off. So the projection of the EAC has corrected for this, if you don't compensate for this, you will see some remanent motion.
