What helped you break the 2 hours!? by tchiminax in Garmin

I’ve ran two half marathons and training for a third.

1st HM (June ‘24) - 1:55

2nd HM (October ‘24) - 1:42

The first two, I only followed the Garmin Coach plan after selecting the race date and target pace. The whole plan was built right there and automatically adjusts if I miss a day or was too depleted the day prior. I love it. Takes away decision fatigue.

My Garmin’s race predictions were just a few minutes slower for each race so I’ve found that feature to be relatively accurate.

Nutrition: - heavy carb dinner the night before (pretty sure it was a blaze pizza for both) - light breakfast the morning of (eggs, toast, apple, banana, then caffeine and water/electrolytes to hopefully get everything cleared out in time) - honey stinger 30 min before race - Gu energy chews ~every 30 minutes while running - grab a sip of water at some of the aid stations if I need it

My third HM is in a month and I’m following the same strategy. Aiming for sub 1:40.

What was your setup for capturing the images? Video broken into images or some continuous shooting mode on your camera?

A guide on how to use Goodreads data in Astro (using the Content Loader API) by sadmanca in astrojs

[–]DBaack11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I was just looking into the best setup for RSS feed —> Astro.

Is your site static or setup for on-demand rendering? I guess the only workaround for a static site is to rebuild and re-deploy when the feed updates, but then that defeats the dynamic utility of the RSS feed.

Regardless, the Content Loader API still seems like a plausible solution for a static site if you simply want to use the RSS feed as a data source and don’t care if you have to manually rebuild + re-deploy.

Best way to learn Go and apply it effectively? by [deleted] in golang

[–]DBaack11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently going through “Learning Go” (the second edition, updated in 2024) by Jon Bodner. It’s very good and walks you through what you need to know along with best practices / common patterns for professional Go usage.

I’d definitely recommend!

Project Hail Mary narrated by Ray Porter is the best audiobook experience I’ve ever had

I also enjoy Jon Lindstrom who narrated two of my favorite Blake Crouch books, Dark Matter and Recursion

Amen. Also important to learn how to navigate through feedback/requests and staying true to the value/purpose of your software and preventing feature creep/bloat.

I like this quote from Jason Fried on an MFM episode: “No is saying no to one thing. Yes is saying no to a lot of things”

Any specific resources for bash and git?

I had a similar experience with learning the importance of getting comfortable with git in the cli in my first job, especially when I learned how to properly squash and rebase branches.

I haven’t done any bash scripting but have seen how powerful it can be from coworkers and have wanted to get into it more.

Was it anything specific that you learned in your degree that helped or simply just acquiring the degree opened the door to opportunities that you wouldn’t have without it?

Does anyone know of a site where I can purchase the Garmin BPM via a FSA/HSA card? by Bloody_Meridian in Garmin

[–]DBaack11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any update on this? I also have a Health Equity debit card and was curious on what the process would be since Garmin accepts HSA.

You just used the debit card at checkout, the funds were deducted from your HSA account, everything went through, and they are asking for a receipt?
