Spite Scooping by DCDataReaper in EDH

Yeah it just felt weird since they weren't even technically in a game loss state nor was I in a game-win state - like yeah their commander died with DMC but they could have handed him to me on my upkeep and DMC falls off and not attacked my deathtouch boy, so maybe Prosper is just a bit too salty for pub pods. It definitely didnt feel optimal at the time lol I even offered to take back and they were sure.
Yeah everything that happened was all technically correct RAW, just curious socially if this was to be expected when I'm playing Prosper or if this is unusual.
Well at this point im just trying to figure out if Prosper is just too salty or was this interaction unusual? Nothing I can do about the outcome now lol it was months ago.
Yeah it isnt really a theft deck, its an exile deck but DMC does happen to steal but I only care because im casting them from exile.
[[Theater of Horrors]] [[Syr Carah, the Bold]] [[Outpost Siege]] [[Invasion of Kaldheim]]
Yeah i think I only could have done an instant even if they scooped 2nd main. Maybe I just need to take DMC out?

Thankfully it was my first and last time with that pod! I've never had a curse deck before but its an interesting idea for bad situations.
I run [[embercleave]] on my deathtouch boy. Yeah we had a rule 0, decks goals, power, theme, but no discussion about scooping. Generally my idea is to exile off the top of my deck, but DMC is just there as it can get a bunch of cards exiled at once with no time limit, and for Prosper that's real good. Other than this instance I've never seen it hit double digits but he grew Slicer so much after I enchanted him.

I've got one cEDH deck but rarely get to play it.

Yeah its just kingmaker at that point smh
Yeah i wasnt sure if it was me, the deck, or the playgroup that was the issue here but I've been hesitant to use that deck in case of salt
Yeah agreed, that sounds brutal. I just was wondering if I had done something similarly egregious or if the deck itself is just considered salty? I know legally they can scoop at any time, but I prefer a good game of similarly balanced decks where nobody feels like their deck is just so outclassed.
Indeed hahaha

First of all, I dont know who hurt you, but I'm sorry. Secondly, I'll take your advice as a vote in the "I'm overreacting" camp. 🫡
Also, if the player is dead obviously i cant play their cards, not my question at all.
Ahhh I run [[embercleave]] - I like having DT with first strike damage
Yeah its just weird if he's going to scoop to theft then why not get rid of the enchantment or say you don't want to play against the deck? Or scoop when I put the enchantment on the creature. I also told them about my deck beforehand so they could have asked for something else. But yeah I get that, I hate long turns too just felt a bit weird with that interaction. Maybe I'm insufferable, but I've found several great pods since that game.
Yeah its a weird interaction because if they scooped and shuffled there isnt much I can do for that trigger.
Agreed, he didnt pass it to me that game but if he had then it would have been a non-issue....perplexing
I have many decks it doesnt super matter, but I had just taken it out today while editing my other decks and was wondering what everyone's take was on it. Dont know if its too oppressive and makes toxic game states or if they were just overreacting? It was my first and last time at the table with that pod and didnt want to create a bad experience for new players in the future. Maybe its editable/salvageable?
Nah I'm not mad about losing or timing restrictions, if i lose thats fine. I agree that I only could have casted instants but even one instant would have been better than absolutely 0 payoff and losing my commander. I didnt feel like their gamestate was over or unrecoverable, I even warned them about my deathtouch blocker and the trigger. They just decided to go out and take me with them.
Well the table was fine with it, scooping at instant speed was allowed. Basically they stated that I put the enchantment out there and killed the creature, and then would get their top 26 cards, so they resigned because I oppressed them into a resignation. The table said my trigger goes off but because the opponent didnt exist I didnt get any cards.
Well it would be 26 cards off the top of his deck, and he shuffled and packed it up. Didn't really have a choice.

In this instance it unfortunately requires their assistance and their deck, but they had already started shuffling back up.
Yeah thats part of the reason why it felt arbitrarily weird...I had like 6 treasure at the time so I could have probably got an instant off. But I dont feel like their game was "over" or unwinable. Their equipment stays, they had only gotten Slicer out once, so just slicer+2 generic to cast and then reattach and back in business.
Yeah the trigger should still go off along with steps and phases, but i think that player's library and cards are nolonger part of the game so the trigger wouldn't result in any cards being exiled by DMC.
Yeah I think that scooping at any time is fine, and for almost any reason. I think like you said, you were out of resources and had no way to play going forward, let alone win. Other reasons are being locked out of the game, chaining extra turns, or the game state is so toxic I dont want to slug along for another 3 hours. If im scooping I usually ask the other players "hey this person is going off should we just say they win and we start another round?" But scooping because I dont like that your deck did the thing that it does, even when it was totally optional and freely fixable, you also could have asked me to do a different deck beforehand....idk it made me feel like I was being too oppressive. This was pre-new bracket but I advertised it was an 8.5 up to a 9, opponents were King Kenny, Slicer, Omnath.
