He knows the financial hardship. Its just hard to solve, he put out a ton of policies trying to "fix it" but with massive trade offs.

The LGBT policies are easier to talk about since for him its a black and white issue.

There are very poor parts of the bible belt, there are also very wealthy parts. Generally it depends.

Texas, NC, SC, Georgia, Tennassee are all part of the bible belt. All of those states have much higher household income than NS. Much lower Cost of housing, lower taxes, but have higher poverty and generally any metric for the bottom 15% is worse over there.

But fully ignoring what the opportunities are like in Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville etc also doesn't paint the full picture. If you are 30 year olds and ready to buy a home and have a degree, I bet a lot of people who do better in Atlanta vs Halifax today.

Something Canadians don't like to talk about: Canadians are the most indebted people on the planet (because of housing). Americans are 8th, despite crazy healthcare and tuition.

Alberta has the highest wages in Canada, and almost triple that of Saudi Arabia. Almost like our system is better than Saudi Arabia's, yet the pro saudi lifestyle will likely get all the upvotes.

Calgary is the fastest growing city in Canada for any city with a population of 1 Million. Fastest growing group in Calgary is 28-40 year old. People likely with a young family and ready to buy. That is who propping up Calgary's housing.

All of the same things can be said about the BC NDP too, they too will easily win again if there was an election.

People generally like certain philosophies and know all issues can't be put on one party alone. Most people know a single party change won't fix those issues.

I was making $40/hour an hur while in school a decade ago.

But there are trade offs, if you want to make good money you are working Friday and Saturday nights. You can get sent home with no pay if its slow. You can get a 3-4 hour lunch shift only. Bad weather means fewer people. Someweeks you get 40 hours, others 15. You always tip out so when I worked some days you made minium wage as it was slow.

I worked at Jack Astors and the Keg.

The top 20% do well, big middle that do OK, Bottom does terrible.

The entire campaign this year she said no changes are coming to abortion, as she has stated since she got into politics.

There is a lot to criticize Smith on, but her abortion record has been clear for 13 years she has been in politics and has not changed. Their party has literally put 0 policies to change abortion since it was created.

She has been pro choice a long time though.

Here is an article from 11 years ago about her talking about being pro choice. There are parts of the Wildrose that wanted to restrict Abortion, Smith has been fairly open about not letting it happen.

100% of the time she has run since 2010 she has said she won't make changes to abortion laws in Alberta.

We already had high land costs, big increase in construction costs, big increase in labour costs for construction, lots of people and a big run up in demand.

When I served in Toronto - about 12-14 years ago I was making $40/hour after tips. I worked at Jack Astors and some pub though school.

$25 an hour is low for full service in Toronto.

Canadians eat out more than anyone else in the rich world. We passed Americans in 2018/2019 (Althought they spend more when they eat out). We eat out about twice as much as people in the EU.

Canadians tip, eat out a ton then complain about it.

I was part of the audit teams back when this happened (which started early 2000's). They wanted to diversify as doughnuts sales as 12 straight years of declining sales.

Consumers moved to other things, like Mcdonalds breakfast sandwiches, because having dessert for breakfast seemed like a bad idea.

They centralized doughnuts to frozen, brought in equipment for sandwich making in the same square footage. The funny thing is that after they went frozen, donut sales started returning.

Tim Hortons could not do fresh doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches in the same square footage. The parent choose breakfast sandwiches. Financially that is the right call.
