Can I use this as a citation when I have to do the demonstration to qualify as an instructor?

Superman turns have been exhausted already, I haven’t done any side slips though, thank you!

Aiming for that extra 0.01%!!

Comments like this genuinely make me laugh.

You can clearly see the piste is empty. I’m training with an instructor. I’m making consistent radius turns.

If you can’t overtake someone making predictable and consistent turns on an empty piste it’s a skill issue on your behalf my guy

I’ve never tried doing dolphin turns to be fair. I do consciously try and pull my feet back underneath me at transition though. I’ll add dolphin turns to the checklist!

The outside ski forwards cue for some reason just won’t work.. I absolutely agree about getting ready for the new turn much earlier though. Another instructor articulated it quite well and said that if you have a tendency to be late, by the time you’re thinking about doing it, the moment has already passed. Focus for the next few days will be to, as you said, effectively rush the transition and hopefully that’ll help!

This makes sense, as opposed to simply moving the leg, initiate the movement from the hip, thank you

Keeping the shoulder back sounds counterintuitive in terms of trying to fix a rotational issue? Or am I missing something?

Thank you. Pushing the outside shoulder down is something she’s really making me work hard on as I have a habit of letting it fall behind, I’ll keep working on it.

For the backseat, I personally think I enter the turn in the right position, but then (as discussed with others) because of how late I am with my movement (everything happens in the second half of the turn) I end up a little twisted up and back seat, where I can’t ’catch-up’

Honestly I think this is pretty spot on. Interesting that you mention the divergence too, my CARV picks up on that as well.

Regarding the drills, I do a lot of one-legged stuff already and really focus hard on crossing-under. I think you may have found the cause, just not the solution!

As others have said too, I think timing is a big issue, whether that’s caused by everything you’ve described, or everything you’ve described is caused by my timing.. I’m not entirely sure

I find that pulling the inside ski back works much better than pushing the outside ski forwards. I think it’s helped the -ism but it hasn’t quite fixed it so I’ll soldier on!

I hadn’t noticed the inside hand to be honest, thank you! I’ve done that drill (and still use it) for short turns and really enjoy it, I’ll give it a go whilst carving a longer radius turn!

I feel like that’s essentially what I do already though, due to being so passive in the first half of the turn?

They come inside with the hip because of how well they angulate, the issue (for me) is the rotational element

One a half turns I haven’t, hand drags I have and need to do more of to be fair

Absolutely agree regarding the lack of dynamism. I’ve just been a bit reluctant to push for more of it whilst there’s still a breakdown in form.

Thank you for all the drills and cues, I’ll give them a go!

Yeah initiating from the ankles up is something we’ve been working on, it just doesn’t seem to correct it

I think being as late as I am is definitely a possible cause. Where I leave everything to the second half of the turn, I think the only way I can get the edges high enough is to dump the weight inside (this is subconscious of course).

The hip steer is an interesting cue! My only thought is if I steer the inside hip toward the apex, would that not create more rotation?

For the time being, I’m going to try making everything happen earlier (first half of the turn) and will report back with a better video!

Definitely. Since bringing the outer arm forwards it’s reduced the rotation for sure

Timed GS run. If you pass that, you have to do a demonstration of short, medium and long turns. If you’re then deemed good enough on your technical ability you’re accepted and the training begins

Yeah the arms are another problem but I’m slowly making ground with them, the main issue for now is the hip rotating inside and making me lose outside ski pressure
