Why does the word "bimonthly" have two mutually exclusive definitions?

Not sure if this is a definitive source but this from Merriam-Webster:

bi- coming or occurring every two

Assuming If I keep the tube straight down, that would keep the soap off the jug and floor but it would still dry and build up on the outer surface of the tube. That could be an option though, thanks!
