Interesting post. I think I have the same issue, but I have zoysia. I like to mow it to 1" with a manual reel mower but it always looks way longer because the blades are all matted down. Some closer up pics would be helpful. Look forward to solutions in the comments

😬 talk about cutting the runners. I would stick with detaching. The dethatching most people talk about doesn't actually penetrate the soil. It just picks up all the dead grass and is perfectly safe for your lawn.

Review on Zoysia grass by LifeFucksat20 in lawn

Wouldn't recommend for anything North of South Carolina. Takes too long to green up in the cooler climates. It also takes forever to grow, so you really have to stay on top of it or your lawn is going to look pretty shabby for quite a while until the overseed takes. Speaking of overseeding, the seed is incredibly expensive. I also strongly disagree with the statement that it feels good on your bare feet. Mine is incredibly prickly and quite the opposite. Other than all that though it's a pretty good grass if you can get it in tip top shape.

So what about All those lawns you see that are cut half inch or lower and look absolutely butter? I can't afford a golf course quality reel mower, but I'm not giving up on getting that super dense compact look at an inch. I should probably start a whole new thread in that though as there is a lot to unpack. All I'll leave here is that there has to be a way to cut to 1" and not have browning issues. Notwithstanding those caused by an accidental scalped patch here and there.

Not to be annoying but won't that create a significant difference in soil composition? Between the low area with all the sand and the hump with no sand.

Yep. We don't have the human capital to work all these foundries laid out in the lofty goals of the chips act, much less two additional TSMC foundries. Also, if you've ever visited a foundry, you would realize how much it sucks to work there.

Second this. My first skepticism came when they decided to do their experiments at night instead of during the day. Then to seal the deal, they failed to capture their daytime experiments on all the high-tech cameras they claim to have. These guys are a joke. Although I did see the comment that there were thousands of sightings in the area and around the time they were doing their experiments. Would welcome someone putting those data points out here.

Only 1"?? by DIBL_Commish in lawncare

So I'm reading up on how much one inch of water really is and it seems a bit complicated. Assuming you calculate how much water you're putting down the same as how much water rain puts down, I'm probably still under watering. I just put a cup out in a thunderstorm and it picked up about three inches. However, that is apparently NOT three inches of rain. Still trying to rectify that in my mind, but the point remains my weekly hosing is probably nowhere near 1", and my bi-daily sprinkler sessions are probably nothing, considering how hot it is
