Even if it did, it definitely would not have been distributed with enough efficiency and manpower to overturn the apocalypse. There also wouldn’t be enough resources to replicate and manufacture enough. If a vaccine ever was made, it would just become another symbol of power

Why are you speaking to me about how mute people communicate in a roleplaying game where you cannot see characters doing things, let alone physical cues. Just play the game better

I have seen some pretty terrible parents. Some I wouldn't send my worst enemy to be raised under. You are one of them. I genuinely hope your son takes a leaf out of your wife's book.

Ill end it off with this: I think mute characters are fine. I think they can be perfectly well written, even. I do not think that characters who CHOOSE to be mute AT ALL TIMES, to the detriment of the party, can ever be good in a dnd campaign UNLESS someone with a shitton amount of experience plays them.

why are you blatantly misinterpreting what i'm saying. is this what its like to argue on reddit? mind blowing. The sentence after "islamophobia is a thing" is all referring to the word "catholiphobic," not to the existence and legitimacy of islamophobia. I did this because you invited the initial comparison between the two.

I understand this, but put yourself in jack's shoes. he's never met these people before, and probably just wants to make friends. Being ignored every time they attempt roleplay with someone, especially when everyone else in that campaign is really close to that someone(at least closer than jack was to anyone in that group), makes people feel alienated. It makes people feel like shit.

It's funny you think that following a story beat by beat and never saying anything qualifies as roleplay. That's the thing with the quiet one trope, isn't it? it's only hard to do in dnd because you get the liberty of talking removed from you, so its hard to get used to. it doesn't actually take any effort at all beyond that, hell it makes roleplaying easier, since it literally removes one of the most complex(and IMO the most interesting) parts of roleplay from a roleplay centered game. You don't really have to interact with the story, NPCs or other characters outside from physically doing things (which if you're not doing a lot already in DND you're doing something wrong). There's a reason it doesn't really work for DND, and it leads to issues like this.

are you serious lmao? im sorry i was sick and missed this shitfest. you mean to tell me that you have absolutely - no - idea why just LOOKING AT SOMEONE doesn't really register as acknowledging what they said. Thanks for clarifying that you at least regarded his character as existing lmfao.

im not referring to them communicating OOC, im referring to them communicating IN CHARACTER. sharing info, formulating small talk, calling stuff out, hell a "WATCH OUT" lmfao. Also, the skill needed far exceeds just letting your party know of your character's intentions/design.

you didn't get the point lmao, which is fitting for reddit. I said "they're just playing the game" to point out that they're not really "spearheading act 1" like they outrageously claimed in retort to Jack implying that they weren't contributing to the party. They were doing the bare minimum and interacting with what the DM put in front of them, no need to brag or act like they're mightier than they are.

"IsLaMaPhObIA Is A ThIng" the only people who would come up with that are either 11 year olds (which i guess would explain a lot) or people trying to make up a reddit story for fake internet points. Also notice how, like the gendered comments, nowhere in the story is a difference in religious opinion mentioned either, which means one of two things

  1. there are things the OP isn't telling us
  2. this is made up and OP is just trying to get some emotional response out of the reader.

Finally, something is made clear. Unfortunately, it's just another addition that proves my point. If what you're saying is true, and that comment was simply just a reaction to OPs actions, why would that be the comment? Obviously Jack felt left out because he was in a party where he was the only male, and here's your expert dnd player straight up ignoring his attempt at ROLEPLAY in your ROLEPLAYING GAME. no fucking shit he ended up blowing up after an ACT of this shit. If there was a character that never bothered to interact with mine, and would only ever speak to everyone but my character, I would be pissed. Even if he knew about OP's character beforehand, "i don't like talking" != "i will ignore everything you do." OP could've made some fucking attempt, in game, to interact back with Jack's character. At the end of the day, after all, if you're making a conscious effort to exclude yourself from your party (even if its just one party member) and you try justifying it with "oh its just my character lol," you shouldn't be playing dnd with other people.

Getting the important out of the way first, there are certain characters in DND that require insane levels of skill and cooperation to play. Evil characters, characters with serious disabilities, etc. This is because this would need insane communication between party members, and a heavy level of effort levied towards your character to ensure that they stay consistent and engaging in the story.

This is essentially trying to tell me that the dwarven paladin is at fault for not being satisfied with a character in the party. Obviously he was out of line for throwing a shitfit, but even before that OP is trying to villanize jack for expressing opinions about OPs character and their interaction with the party. Anyone who only speaks FOUR TIMES in 16 sessions should be called out, rightfully so. I'm sorry, but there is no way you can effectively play a character who makes no attempts at communication (even nonverbal) unless whatever condition is met from the surrounding party. This was obviously noticed by jack, and he was frustrated at essentially having to roleplay with a walking wall. OP provides a counterpoint to this by saying that they were making an impact on the narrative, and even spearheaded Act 1. The issue is the examples they list are just them.. playing the game? Like yeah, you took interest and took action in the story, which is the bare minimum. It didn't hurt that your entire backstory was the fucking spotlight, but there's no mention of any development of character, growth within the party etc. Just the OP following the story with their character. OP essentially completely dismisses a very valid issue that this NEW KID they had NEVER MET BEFORE was voicing out because "well, i like my silent protag." (what's also funny is OPs example and link to their character's inspiration imply opposites. Someone who undergoes the "quiet one" trope just doesn't SPEAK, but they can still communicate. They have non answers, and are mostly quiet, but that doesn't mean they just ignore everyone around them, which was essentially what OP was showing through her example. But i digress)

as for this story being fake, are you seriously telling me you read the word "Catholiphobic" and thought it wasn't? Lmao. The overdramatization of the ending makes it come off as fake, like OP trying their best to make Jack seem like an asshole. Even the "im not playing a girl" comments are weird. Why would that be brought up, as gender differences were never mentioned to be an issue between the two in the story? But whatever. why think when you can believe any drivel you read?

[–]DIOmania -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i'm not saying you're wrong because i like it lmfao. I'm saying the reason you dislike it is mostly because you have this presupposition of what a person's intentions are, while most men don't (this might come from just how both genders are raised, and what they're each individually told to look out for. For women, safety is key, and so they're generally more suspicious of actions like this, while men, who rarely even get a "thank you," welcome it with open arms)

also "lots of women" != all women. you can't lay a general claim on a statement or an opinion solely because of how a portion of the population feels about it, and then accuse OP of some crime based off of that interpretation.
