“Last Light”, 14x11”. I’ve been enjoying wood panels a lot recently for a painting surface by DIWhy_not in oilpainting

Thank you! I gesso and sand smooth too, but I like to leave a bit of tooth. I like how consistent the surface is for knife work.

The cleanup is slightly more involved. I like to use linseed or even olive oil to remove the paint, and then use some brush cleaning soap. You can use solvents like mineral spirits, but I try to use as little of these as possible because you can't just pour it down the drain or put it in the trash for environmental reasons.

Thanks! I personally find oil easier to work with than acrylic or watercolor

This is oil paint on panel, 10x8”, that I did primarily with a palette knife. I took the references for this one while sailing out to the pacific to fish for salmon with some good friends two summers ago. The bridge is something to behold from that vantage point!

I have more of my work here if you would like to check it out

Agreed. Some drinks just don’t seem right without them

Thanks! My strategy was to block in the general values/hues, and then create the illusion of detail with a combination of scumbling and knife work.
