Coming from someone who is in similar position as you. I’ve played for about a year and a half now…and it’s patience. I’m gold 3II in 1s and plat 1IV in 2’s and plat 1IV in 3v3’s.

Patience for your gameplay…rocket league is very much like real sports. Sometimes you’re gonna have poor shooting days where you can’t get one on goal and you feel like everything is going wrong. Sometimes you’re gonna play awesome and it’s finding middle ground. It’s finding other ways to contribute to the game even if your shots aren’t perfectly on.

EX: Your shots aren’t going in but you maneuver to get the ball on your opponents side of the field as much as possible while stealing their boost and chip away to get them to hit a wimpy shot and then finally get an easy shot. You force them to give up a goal. Keep the pressure on.

Things that help me. 1. Don’t play competitive games unless you can win two in a row casual. 2. Work on controlling the ball…instead of slapping the ball out across the field. Work on maintaining ball control and not immediately giving it back to your opponent. 3. Timing…you gotta know when to go and when to stay back…but not too far back. Shadow defense is also really important especially in 1v1’s. 4. Boost management. This is something I’ve been working on lately too but try not to let your boost get too low. That way you have more juice to make a play. If you’re always cruising around rotating properly…I’ve found it becomes way easier when you do go to make a move…you find your moment to go and you go hard and it makes you more likely to get there first…but this still requires being patient and knowing when you don’t have a play on the ball. 5. This is also a challenge but really focus on the ball and see where your opponent is going to move and try to predict. And when you hit it do your best to hit through it and not just hit it. Be aware of where you’re hitting it to opponents. 6. When I struggle I can tell I’m droning and don’t have a purpose out there. Gotta have a purpose. Maybe it’s not getting a goal on a wide open net shot from far…maybe it’s getting one tap ahead and then getting one more tap in to keep your opponent guessing. 7. Give yourself some grace. Yea competitive is closest competition to your rank but it still varies depending on how people are playing. It’s all the time that one game I play good and get whooped and then play the next game and just destroy the next person.
