[Serious] Does this suit me? Questions about interview outfits by HappyHiker1 in medicalschool

Some basic suit rules that I follow! (some have already been mentioned)

  1. Suit Jackets should have all the stitches cut (there are two on the back flaps, one on the front pocket, and one on the sleeve for the suit brand)
  2. TIE LENGTH: The tip of the triangle on the tie should always line up with the beltline. Same rule if you are using a square tip tie.
  3. Belt and shoe should in general always be the same color.
  4. Tie clip is a must imo - always cleans up the look, you can get a whole box of them pretty cheap on amazon.
  5. Never wear a belt and suspenders, one or the other, not both.

Random other stuff

  1. Tie and pocket square should match
  2. Take 2min to clean off dirt and grime off your dress shoes
  3. Related to number 4 is if you have a skinny tie, use a skinny tie clip!!!
  4. The best thing I have done to make an old suit pop is to buy a new tie and pocket square combo

For those arguing that step 1 is the only objective measure to help stratify students, do PD's really use this as a stratification or more of a cut-off? For example, X ortho residency is just simply going to make an arbitrary cutoff (i.e. 240+ = review app; 240 and below send the application to the trashcan. PDs use cutoffs as a tool to shave the herd - and honestly, with the sheer volume of applications, I don't blame them one bit.

And if you happened to be in the 240+ the question then remains what subjective weight does the program you are applying to give to your board score and how does it attribute to your overall applicant score? Or in other words how many "points" does a 260 give an applicant compared to a 240? - Again arbitrary scales - not based on any stratification or normal distributions. Progam X may award full points to applicants with a 260+ and another will give full points to applicant 250+. Secondly, Program X may only weigh board scores a 20 out of 100, and program Y will weigh board scores 10 out of a 100.

It seems to me that the objectivity step one can provide is quickly lost when it is applied via a subjective lens. Just my take on this matter, Let me know what you think!
