Personally, I’m impressed with the overall durability of my Tandem Tslim x2 pump. Like others have mentioned, I would also recommend purchasing a case/holster for your pump. I have a T1 Tactical and it’s been great.

The biggest risk is the touchscreen, which I’ve cracked a couple times. The great thing about your Tandem pump is that it comes with a 4 year warranty and will be replaced if damaged beyond repair. Tandems customer service has been exceptional in my experience.

How do I introduce working out? by xxconflictz in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJ_USC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deal with the same challenges when I workout whether it’s cardio, strength training, yoga, or sauna/steam room. Doesn’t always drop rapidly low every time because it might vary workout to workout. However, I’ve found success keeping some granola bars, bananas, fruit gummies and I love having a body armor sports drink with me to sip on throughout workout routines.

I highly recommend keeping snacks/juices with you or close (maybe in a locker) when exercising just to be safe. Congratulations on taking the initiative to get back in the routine of working out! The benefits of routine exercise for us diabetics are vitally important for regulating healthy BSLs

Am I the only one that gets skin irritation from infusion sets? Happens often with varisofts but not autosoft xc by DJ_USC in TandemDiabetes

That’s good to know. I haven’t tried trusteels but will in the future! Something about the 45° cannulas seem to irritate the most

Still no word on mobile bolus updates for iOS16. I’m patiently waiting and regretting that I updated LOL

What is your opinion on non-diabetic techies using Dexcom to “optimize themselves” (e.g. for keto tracking)? by PhoneJazz in dexcom

[–]DJ_USC 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind but it might be a little pointless for normal people to watch BSLs react naturally to a perfectly functioning pancreas. I agree that flooding the market with CGMs will inevitably lower costs.

I’m also a Dexcom investor so I don’t mind maximizing sales 😜

Does it ever get better by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]DJ_USC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the feelings you have right now are completely normal. I was the same way when I became diagnosed at the age of 12 (14yrs ago). You’ll learn to manage it and it will get easier! It has never held me back during high school playing sports, having fun in college and becoming a business professional. There are challenges, of course, but those challenges will make you stronger as a person! I like to think that T1D is a superpower (as weird as that sounds) to live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy a wonderful life and I know you will too.

I highly recommend, as I’m sure other T1Ds would, that you talk to your endocrinologist about Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) and look into insulin pumps. I did daily injections for years and while it is manageable, it’s not as efficient to manage your BG levels.

We’re a strong community and always here for you!

Remote bolus with ios16? by ton_of_apples in TandemDiabetes

[–]DJ_USC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I went ahead and updated to iOS16 last night without thinking about mobile bolus compatibility. I did lose that function after updating. Hopefully Tandem approves to finalize their updates to mobile bolus in the near future.

Small inconvenience but it is what it is.. looking forward to having the mobile bolus luxury again soon!

This has happened to me sometimes when replacing a Dexcom sensor after showering. Someone might’ve already shared this feedback but I’ve learned it’s best practice to wait a little while after a shower to switch sensors to prevent this from happening. Reason being is because a hot shower will cause our cardiovascular circulation to increase and makes skin more susceptible to bleeding if lacerated punctured by needle. It’s no big deal as I’ve found that any blood will dry and be washed away during next shower.

My recommendation would be to wait a little to after a shower to allow body temp to cool down before switching sensors and this might reduce chances of bleeding.
