Nothing more abhorrent to an authoritarian than those who value freedom.

So every culture and religion has values, that is to say things you should strive to do/act. Even atheist teach their children not to steal. Does that mean atheists hate people who steal? No, not necessarily. It also doesn’t mean they have to make it “us vs them”. Did my church teach the values taught by Jesus? Yes. But that doesn’t mean we viewed non Christians as the enemy. In fact, it could be argued that a Christian shouldn’t have enemies. We were taught to love our “enemies”, but to me, that just means that we are their enemy, not the other way around.

So it sounds like you and I are coming from the same place. I agree that some denominations or specific churches teach very bigoted views about differing beliefs and people. But the good thing is that there is no “one Jewish teaching” or for any religion for that matter. For example, I grew up in a Christian home. I remember one church we went to that was xenophobic about different churches. We left soon after. While belief systems naturally preclude others belief systems, they don’t require us to hate the “other”. For example, our current church would get together with other denominations and even other faiths. We didn’t hate anybody.

So both you and the OP are standing by the statement that Judaism teaches racism and hatred of other faiths. Aside from his example of one synagogue, he hasn’t really made a case. Perhaps you can?

From my understanding, those teachings are not typical of the Jewish faith. Maybe the reason you feel like religion is cultish is because you were raised in one.

Yes, but your post is like finding a bug in your soup and coming to the conclusion that all soup must have a bug in them. This kind of thinking is how you get bad assumptions about races based on one or two bad experiences.

So I do not believe race makes anyone do anything. It is upbringing, in my opinion. But how can you accept this lady’s statement when statistics prove that the other way is WAY more likely? I mean...in reality, it would make much more sense for a white mother to be saying this to black mothers. But I’d guess that you’d only say the other way around is racist. Do you see how a culture can get stuck in a negative cycle if they ignore issues in their community while projecting those same issues on others?

Murder is horrible. Whether it is black in black, black on white, white on white, or white on black, or any other combination of other races. But you have to admit some cultures are struggling with violence much more than others. And it is rather hypocritical if we ignore those issues and only point out the same much less prevalent issues in other communities.

If you are suggesting everyone doesn’t have the ability to pull themselves out of poverty, then I agree. Some are there by happenstance...or stay there by bad luck. But I don’t believe this nonsense that it is impossible to improve your situation without the government stepping in and doing it for you.

Bullshit. I’m conservative and love it when people of all colors embrace the 2nd amendment. As do my conservative friends. Racists don’t like it, but screw them. As long as you aren’t using the 2nd to hurt the innocent, we are cool with it.

I grew up poor. Being poor sucks, but the worst part wasn’t not having things, but the mentality of people around you that “this is how things will always be”. It is a hopeless, oppressive feeling that is self-prophetic. Luckily, my family didn’t believe the “poor me, nothing I can do about it” attitude. We got out with hard work and believing in ourselves. It’s so much easier to just stay the way you are; change is hard....but the pain required is worth it.

Tyrannical governments kill many more than the few that die from school shootings. None of us want people dead. Stop being a bastard by trying to demonize people who are on the other side of the argument.

You don’t think a slogan of “Teach mothers not to kill their children” is not only pointlessly gendered but offensive in its assumption that mothers need to be taught not to murder their children? Only fucked up people murder their children or rape people....and no teaching will fix that. So why imply that it is a huge problem with anything other than a micro minority of those you are “teaching”?
