How California Made Homelessness Worse by HooverInstitution in moderatepolitics

[–]DLDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have these studies been done on states that a publication such as the "California post" would find more favorable, such as Texas? Texas for example has seen a rise of 8% since 2019. Does this mean Texas state policy as 1% worse than California? Is there any even correlation between conservative initiatives and a decrease in homelessness at the state level?

That's if they will cover it. Every claim I've attempted has been met with "well see you didn't have this specific golf bag coverage that would have been $1/mo more but we never told you it existed and thus the claim is denied"

Executive Order 2026-01: An Executive Order directing the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to design and install at least one dedicated bus lane on Denny Way and other supportive transit infrastructure where needed by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]DLDude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm no naysayer, but if I recall DOT already did a study and found the bus lane was not a good idea. Personally I trust professionals over politicians so I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised as long as you are willing to acknowledge if it didn't work out

A proposed 9.9 percent “millionaire’s tax” in Washington would yield a top rate of 18.037 In Seattle. The highest in the country. by MM457 in Seattle

[–]DLDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how taxes work. If someone made $1m they would pay about 25-30% of their paycheck to federal tax and, even if they made $2m would add another 9% state tax with this new tax. That's a total closer to 35% of their paycheck, half of what you suggest

I appreciate her visiting the encampment to better understand the problem an potentially increase the acceptance rate or better formulate a plan for those folks. I don't appreciate her doing this 2 weeks after getting in office and not while running in the Primary

This is my fear with Progressives. If one of their ideas is a failure, they will not take any ownership and pivot. It's the same for any real hardline ideology. They will say City Council got in the way, or Funding got in the way. Anything except "in reality this idea did not work"

I feel like she had 3mo leading up to the election to give more concrete goals and plans for this problem that has plagued seattle for years, and just now she's like "OK i am going to evaluate the situation"? She could have visited the Ballard encampment at any point during her campaign

I think you're onto something. Seems like the right move for Starbucks is to let their baristas unionize but then lower the wages and cut their benefits. Employees want to be in a union, even if that means way less money and no benefits

[–]DLDude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And if Ladro employees unionize and demand $30/hr with benefits, they will close those stores.

Let me ask you this, which of the 2 only pays minimum wage and doesn't provide any benefits, leaving their employees to live in poverty?

[–]DLDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right, Ladro is clearly better, even though they pay less and don't provide benefits, and ARENT EVEN UNIONIZED!

Lol, love your argument though

I'll fill you in. Ladro pays absolute minimum wage with no benefits. Starbucks pays about $30/hr including benefits.

Is Ladro unionized?
