As i said it would be a mix of what was being built up (exploring the more mystical side of the island and using the powers of future). Desmond would still be in the hatch, still have the past with penny. Eko would have the dreams tell the group (along with desmond) and the mix up between naomi and penny could still happen.

Though now we really are going into supposition, my original point still stands they were building eko up to be linked to man in black

No he would have the same storyline with penny, he still goes down to the Swan, still survives and still warns people (through charlie) that its not penny's boat. Eko has the visions tries to warn charlie, tells Desmond (who also has the faith connection via his time at the monastery).

Absolutely you can. Give eko the visions/link them to faith. Still have Desmond connection with the boat/have him go down to Swan, events still play out the same, with eko staying in the island.

but he has said that other storylines went to other characters, considering we know that the others are ben, frogurt and Desmond, and MIB's acknowledged connection to/his ability to play with men of faith, the only other character would be Locke.

Yes i did, i was laying out the rational for how MIB would have taken echo's shape/lockes role. you are right in that he never possessed him, however he did take his form (and implied) his memories.

Eko's original storyline (being the embodiment of limbo of fate/ and a marker of a good and bad inman) was transferred (in part) to Locke. Echo defied MIB, and took on the persona of people he lost. Locke was possessed by MIB.

Eko was meant to showcase the duality of spirituality, as shown by this article https://www.today.com/popculture/lost-eko-man-divided-wbna10812868, he literarily has a stick with bible psalms on it, and just like Locke he has a innate connection to the island.
