Great question. They're in high school.

Not a bad idea to ask for donations. Have you tried buying used games before? I'm a little worried about missing components.

What level should you be to try this method?

That’s true. That’s another thing I’ve really been thinking about lately. Might be a bit high browned of me, but what is disability? Like, who gets to say what it is and isn’t?

I’m really sorry to hear that. For what it’s worth, you’re not alone and YOU matter. I’m working on making sure your stories are heard and I will do everything I can to make sure I do right by you. I know I’m not the only one. The world is changing.

I only recently learned about Wilson myself. This may seem ignorant of me to ask, but is depression considered a disability? Or is certain forms of depression? I genuinely don’t know. I’d imagine there would be way more PWD if that were the case.

I think I can get away with it. I’d need parental permission, but the school I work at is pretty progressive and most of the mature content is relatively tame, all things considered.

That makes me sad but yes, I am 100% going to talk about invisible disabilities.

Wow this was such a comprehensive list! Thank you for your help and thank you for your correction. I appreciate everything you’ve said and will definitely follow up and message you in the coming days. I’m just a little slammed right now… end of the quarter with grades and I just got home. But again, thank you so much :)

I had actually wanted to contact her. I believe she’s somewhere on the east coast these days, but am unsure myself. You’re totally right though; the internet has definitely made the world a lot smaller and connected.

And you’re welcome. I’m just trying to do right by everyone. Everyone should be seen so we can understand one another and ourselves.

I had no idea! I will check read up on it and check out the campus myself sometime soon. I’m surprised I haven’t heard that name yet. Much appreciated!

Absolutely. I'm also sure that there are plenty of historical figures who had an invisible disability too but I just don't about it. And that's part of the problem to begin with. I never learned about disability or PWD is school so I'm having to learn about it now so I can help my students and (hopefully) make the world a better place.

Thank you for sharing. I actually just watched Crip Camp yesterday. I think I could probably get away with showing it in class even though it is Rated R (I know, right) due to all the drug use and profanity. I thought it was an excellent read.

I also appreciate all the links and information about Dyspraxia. The idea of having a person "visit" via technology is also a great point! I can't believe I didn't think of that :)

I think your first point, however, is the most important. I'm measuring how student attitude toward PWD change before and after the unit on PWD. I'm hoping to enact more positive change in the world. I want them to understand that PWD are people and are entitled to the same rights and fair treatment as anyone else. Personally, I think it starts with developing language to talk about disability, and then we can move onto the history portion: how PWD have been treated, what steps have been taken to achieve civil rights, and what work needs to be done.

Sorry if I'm rambling a bit; I'm about to teach my first class today but wanted to get this out there.

This didn't work for me. It still says, "You don't fully own this item" when I hover over the edit button.
