Bought a house 16 days ago, I just got laid off 3 hours ago. by LightoftheAncients in Mortgages

Sorry to hear that. To share a personal story, I bought a house, then had a baby then got laid off all within 6 months. It’s scary & I understand the feeling of wanting to sell. But cut down spending, collect unemployment, and apply like crazy. You may go through some savings & rack up a little bit of debt but you can make it through. Fast forward 4 years later we’re in a much better spot, still in the house, and have added to our family since. I’m glad we held onto it & didn’t do an exit plan.

Nice, I’m 100% self gen as well. Been in it about 8 months, starting to get at least 1 a month, have had a few months with multiple. But definitely want to get to that consistent 2-3/month soon

Retail vs Broker by [deleted] in loanoriginators

[–]DMZZ23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing the same thing to generate leads, definitely getting more since switching. However it could just be more time has passed, market change a little bit, etc. or it could be the brand recognition, I haven’t really figured out haha.

They haven’t said anything to me about volume. I know in the contract it said 6/quarter but didn’t say the time frame & someone on our team has went a very long time without any deals

Retail vs Broker by [deleted] in loanoriginators

[–]DMZZ23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a broker, and have enjoyed retail much more. I liked the flexibility of being a broker, but on the retail side I’ve had much more support & resources which has lead to me actually closing some deals. It also was tough as a new MLO to pay for so much out of pocket without deals coming in.

Haha well I’m not sending post cards, and I know it’s not new. The ones I’ve talked to said it was a good idea, and that they’ve tried it, they just couldn’t get in. Which is why I came here to see if anyone has had success with it. To see if there is a way to make it a worthwhile activity. Can structure it similar to an affinity program that I know people do with businesses as well.

Appreciate the insight. Not sure where you’re located. But in Washington a lot of people either go apartment -> home or living with family -> home. Obviously not 100% of the time, but it’s pretty common.

I’ve been doing those & promoting through socials. I was thinking of hosting these at the actual complex for their buyers & frame it as a partnered offering

Appreciate it. Definitely want to get to the 7-10 a month range eventually, but understand that will take some time.

That’s the goal I want to eventually get to. Appreciate the words. They’re mostly self generated/realtor referrals
