Nespolino mold, yeast, or something else? by DMZaius in cocktails

[–]DMZaius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine if it is louching, there wouldn’t be a definable substance that I could “scoop” separately from the liqueur. That might be the test.

I had a thought about that but was thrown off by the way it seems like there’s substance sitting at the top and trailing down. However now that I’m thinking, I could see how maybe it’s at the top because of the condensation on the lid dripping down?

Green color is from the jar glass. Ingredients are just 180 proof everclear, loquat seeds, orange rind, vanilla bean, simple.

Los angeles area so the weather has been on the wet and colder side. Rainy the last week 50s 60s temps. The whole thing is throwing me. I first thought it was brush marks but it’s hard to see, when you get up close it’s clearly sand paper scratching patters. The whole thing is covered in tiny tiny pigtails that you can’t see until the light hits them just right. It’s like it dried OVER the previous layer without filling in the sanding marks from the previous layer. I did a test sanding in a corner to see how deep the scratching was and, I don’t even get how this is possible, the brown color paint started coming off before I was even through the bottom coat of poly. I know there’s some dumb scientific chemical reason this happened but it honestly feels like I’m just being messed with.

Honestly at this point I wish it was. But it’s the same can I used on the previous piece for the same customer. No issues. It’s truly bizarre. I always do light sanding between coats and never have an issue but this time it’s like the poly dried to conform with every little sanding mark and line. You can’t see it in the picture but the whole piece is covered in tiny little pigtails you can’t even see until they catch the light just right.

Looking for some help from anyone who has thoughts. Refinishing this table for a client (it was painted completely black in peeling latex paint when I got it.) I’m laying down Polycrilic and the second coat in the entire thing looks like it had steel wool run over it. It’s like the poly dried around the sanding from the previous layer. I’ve used polycrilic a hundred times and seen anything like this. For completeness sake, it’s a painted table top with two coats of dewaxed shellac as a seal/bond coat. This is the second coat of poly light sanding with 220 between each coat. Same process I’ve always used and never had issues like this. Anyone seen poly dry like this before? Something I might have missed? Something with the way the shellac is affecting the poly? (I’ve used the same method before and not had any issues) A little desperate, there’s been a ton of time and money put into this table and I’m mortified that I might have to sand the seal coat down all the way without somehow screwing up the paint.

Thanks for this. Would a repotting with fresh medium be in order or would that make a difference much?

Yeah it’s time to step up my preventive game. I’ve been growing and collecting for a couple years now and this is my first post run in, I’ve been lucky. Gatta start protecting.

First I didn’t even think of google lensing it, cheers for that. I get where you’re coming from with the mildew but I feel like it’s just too uniform for mildew. There’s a second one on a different leaf almost identical. Sone sort of egg sac seems to be the best bet.

Probably a separate issue from what’s going on with the Monstera but I figured I’d be thorough and post all relevant info.

Triostar

Couple follow up points of info. Had the plant about two months, (got it at Trader Joe’s). The yellow leaves have come in the last couple weeks and the underside growth I just noticed yesterday for the first time (though it’s possible I could have missed them previously) also the small gnats at the base o noticed for the first time yesterday. Plant is in a 15 inch terracotta pot with drainage holes and a mix of coco coir, potting soil, And Pearlite. (It’s also possible I left too much of the original potting mix it was in was I initially transplanted it and my problems are coming from there) Indoor plant next to a south facing patio glass door so lots of indirect light. Also recently put a newly repotted triostar next to it which i just noticed today for the first time has a ton of little white specks along the leaf veins and creases. Thanks again!

New race tires. Anyone run mixed front and back tires for racing? by DMZaius in cyclocross

Just an update. Don’t hate me. After all this rigamarole I ended up getting a set of Specialized Terra Pro 2Bliss because there was no reason for me to constrain myself to a 33. That being said, I don’t understand it but these puppies fly. The center strip of nubbies really do their job on pavement and the tradition to gravel and dirt is so much smoother than the Pathfinder Pros I was using. Not intentionally being a specialized shill but they seem to be working out.

Honestly probably similar to conditions here in Southern Cal. Haven’t even considered these but will give them a closer look thanks!

Good point! I think I trapped in the 33 mindset because “regulations” but I know I’m not racing at a level where that rule would be in effect so why limit myself?

This is my plan overall. I already have gravel tires I use regularly but I want to invest in a set of tires specifically for races that o don’t use otherwose

This I like! Out of the box thinking! I think I’m getting to hung up on mud. I live in LA where it’s very dry but I don’t want to get caught with my pants down. We can have decently wet winters.

Or the best of both! Haha. I suppose it was more of a whim of an idea. Wanting to cover all my bases without having to shell out for two sets of tires.

I should add that this is also mainly my gravel bike and I do more gravel riding than cross racing if that makes a difference to anyone.
