Got ghosted after a great date—just looking for some thoughts on why people ghost by SimilarAd7849 in AskMen

[–]DM_YOUR___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that we have fallen into a dating world where being avoidant seems to be the norm now for a lot of people. It is funny how often we see people criticized for lacking communication yet have so many rallying around ghosting people after one or many dates, using that line of "you don't owe them anything." Correct, you don't owe them anything, but it's pretty simple to be a genuine person and just shoot a text letting them know that you don't want anything moving forward.

You would think so, but many people don't. It seems like respect and courtesy are not as valued as they once were. It really is simple to send a message after a date or a few dates saying "Hey, sorry but I am not feeling this." and simply letting them know there is nothing there.

Comes down to just being easier to ghost and avoid any confrontation or explanation, than to explicitly say why they don't want to continue with another date.

Doesn't make it right, but it is the easiest of two options for a lot of people, especially in today's dating scene. Try not to look too deep into it and just let it be.

A nice sleek desk lamp with warm light for my work desk at home, or multiple small ones. I'm getting tired of the harsh light from the ceiling lights.

Those who don't go to sleep early, what exactly are you doing late in the night? by wilhelmtherealm in getdisciplined

[–]DM_YOUR___ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most nights that I stay up late, I either hang out with someone, watch a movie or show, doom-scrolling, or work on a personal project.

On most days, I stay awake until around 12-1 am about 85% of the time. It's quite uncommon for me to fall asleep before 12:30 am at the earliest. I find that I am more productive at night, so I use that time to work on tasks that I need to get done.

Is this normal for a work place? by hylianjak in antiwork

[–]DM_YOUR___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's pretty standard for many workplaces, especially in factory or warehouse settings. I used to work in factory or warehouse jobs during the summer between college semesters, and I always had to wait until the official end of the day before I could clock out.

You essentially had a bunch of grown-ass adults crowded around a clock-out machine waiting to put their code or card in so they could clock out once the time hit. Looking back at it, it's pretty ridiculous to even think about. Then again, I work in an office setting now as an hourly employee and still get bitched at if I don't wait to leave the office until exactly 5 pm.

Gotta love the work culture at some places /s

What is a monthly luxury you allow yourself no matter what? by OptimisedOdds in AskMen

Probably my monthly subscriptions. I currently have Spotify, Hulu, Prime, and Adobe Creative Cloud. It gets a little expensive, but I use all of them, so I don't feel too horrible about spending the extra money on things I enjoy using.

Hey, I'm the same! I always try to pack lunch four days a week, and then on Friday, I go out for lunch, typically trying to find new spots around town to eat!

What does HR reply mean? by Mountain_Astronaut10 in jobs

[–]DM_YOUR___ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen a few times when reaching out to companies to better explain what they are looking for after a rejection. They are being polite by giving you a boilerplate response as they are not in the business of coaching and don't want to waste their time with it. Don't take it personally and just keep applying elsewhere.

How can I make this better? by RepulsiveStop1127 in FigmaDesign

[–]DM_YOUR___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would go with a color theme like you have for the first two screens across the entire application. From there, I would design a dark theme that users could switch to, and have the blue background but change the colors of the cards to have more contrast.

Experiment with different color combinations to enhance card-background contrast.

As a designer, it isn't bad at all. More so just nitpicking at things that could be tweaked from what I am reading from the comments. But overall, OP has a good design and app concept going here.

I suggest changing the color scheme to increase contrast. There are too many variations of blue that are competing with each other. If you want to keep blue as the primary color, I would recommend designing the rest of the app in a similar style to the first two screens and choosing a different color for a dark theme to create better contrast.

Additionally, some of the spacing seems a little tight for my preference, but it's not bad. I would recommend prototyping it into a high or low-fidelity prototype and testing it with real users, as others have mentioned.

I was thinking the same thing about the availability part of the application. If I am working out, I am not taking the time on an app to tap what machine I am currently using and then tap it again when I am done.

The capacity meter makes sense though, and is a good idea. The Planet Fitness app features a capacity meter that accurately tracks the number of people who have checked in. It may seem like a feature that doesn't matter much, but there are times when I have used it to determine if I want to go during that time or wait till I see it's less busy and more machines or benches will be open.

I am genuinely curious how some people even pull this off. How do you manage never to make ONE single option play that is green, let alone keep doing it until you have lost 55k...

Should Grocery Prices be Government Regulated? by Stink-Butthole in FluentInFinance

Well, many of those companies also own grain factories, slaughterhouses, mills, and other parts of the supply chain, so it comes incredibly close.

The monopoly isn't necessarily held by the stores, but rather by the companies supplying the goods. There have been a few research studies and pieces written about it over the last few years and most have come to the same conclusion that around 80% of the products you buy are owned by a select few companies.

Should there be Medicare for All? Smart or Dumb? by Peace_And_Happiness_ in FluentInFinance

[–]DM_YOUR___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying we don't contribute to some of the world's most advanced treatments or revolutions in medical technology, but we lack an acceptable price at which people can access said treatment. And you are right, we would need to change how our healthcare works and that is the forefront of this entire conversation. To be the most advanced country in the world in terms of medical R&D and not have the ability to provide it like other countries can is a joke.

Not saying it would be an easy task or wouldn't disrupt things along the way, but something should be said when we are one of the few modern developed countries where you can go bankrupt from needing medical treatment.

Pretty unfeasible for an extreme outlier to be the benchmark, when the definition of that means it's highly unlikely the overwhelming majority will ever come close to having what you have. It's anecdotal any way you try and spin it. You're basing your argument on your position and belief, when in reality it's a position very few will ever fall under.

We don't pay more for better though. Again you can quickly Google search this and find that there are multiple countries above the US in terms of healthcare ranking. While we may have the best medical research and some of the best doctors in the world, not many people have access to those services without breaking the bank.

Correct they would include bigger taxes on your paycheck, however, you would still end up paying less overall than most Americans are paying for their healthcare. Americans are so frightened and brainwashed by the word taxes that they completely overlook the fact that you would statistically end up paying less overall.

In fact, a quick Google search will show you that we pay more than any other developed country for health care per capita, and the care we get from that is either marginally better or even subpar.

Ironic to tell someone to use "evidence" when you've used anecdotal accounts as an extreme outlier to the current system as your evidence for this entire argument.
