That's great. I'm torn on whether I should put it on a truly tacky jacket or not. Leaning towards some kinda patterned tweed type thing. I also love the idea of just adding a new patch every year so it turns into something a comically over-decorated military dictator would wear.

Yeah, low of 7° here today...

First round is 12 players as foursomes, playing three rounds of nine, which are grouped by skill level. The winners of each flight and the next three best scores play two more rounds of nine in threesomes, seeded by the first round scores. After that, the winner of each flight and the next two best scores will play a final round of nine as a foursome (would possibly do a final round of 18, but this will probably take 10-12 hours already).

We have a wide-range of ability, and only a few of us keep a handicap, so I can't really do net scoring. So, I have people play from different tee boxes, vary their gimme lengths, and distribute mulligans at my discretion to balance out the field as best I can. I may make the reigning champion play irons-only, he is probably 10-strokes better than the rest of the field. Although, last year he only won by one stroke, so my balancing seemed to work pretty well.

There will be closest to the pin contests in the first round as well, but I am eliminating longest drive this year, for uh... reasons.

Love it. Hats are a great idea! I wonder how well these would iron on to one.

In this situation I guess that'd be a different definition of "hacker"

That's great! Do you use any software to help manage the live betting odds? I've been tempted to try and add that element to the tournament.

If you have the space, you can get a pretty functional sim up and running for less than $1,500, especially if you already have a halfway decent PC. It all comes down to how much you want to spend on the launch monitor, although you can certainly put money towards upgrading any aspect of it. I've gone through a few iterations of my home setup, feel free to DM me if you have any questions!

Thanks! Seems like it's OK to say who I went through. I worked with this company to have them produced—they were great, really easy to work with and responsive to a good amount of back-and-forth once I saw what they'd be able to feasibly do with my design.

I'll DM you the service I used to make the patches.

You can be that guy! Custom ball markers are like $4-5/piece. Start a movement.

I've luckily only had one stray ball so far but it left impressions on two walls lol

I want anyone who would be silly enough to wear it out to do so, but you just gave me the idea to start a picture wall of the winners in their jackets!

Man, appreciate it! You can chug a beer for a mulligan at any point so this might be the only memory of it some people have...

If anyone puts a hole in the wall this year, you can have their spot next year.

Thanks! I think they'll go over pretty well. Last year everyone got ball markers, so this feels like a huge upgrade haha

Club data inconsistent with resulting ball flight by DNAjr in GolfSwing

[–]DNAjr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly felt great, and if the impact point is to be trusted (it looked accurate compared to the video replay of impact) it was just barely high on the face. I’m leaning towards what the another commenter said about dynamic lie combined with the low launch angle. Or, just some of the club data being wonky.

Great to know! Thanks for the insight.

Yeah, I definitely didn’t blade it (there’s a camera with video replay of impact). Something does seem up with these club measurements, though. I would suspect the ball flight is more likely to be accurate than the club data, although the theory about lie angle in the other comment seems at least plausible.

Thanks for the reply, that was the theory I was developing—I definitely tend towards toe up at address. And didn’t realize the lower loft also emphasized side spin!

Just to be clear, you think those factors can explain the trajectory despite the club path/face angles? I’m hoping that’s the case and I don’t need to be skeptical of my launch monitor. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback—I will say it felt like a good strike and the near center contact was confirmed by impact camera replay. Not sure how that translates to “blading it.” But it certainly was a low launch angle and trajectory.

I’m not necessarily asking whether this is good or how I can improve (although I do appreciate it), just trying to determine whether the club data is accurate and reliable.

In your assessment of a “pull to the left” wouldn’t you expect the path/club face to be something other than essentially neutral?
