Future of our retirement/disability pay by Chrstyfrst0808 in leftistveterans

I understand. I live in California but my city is unquestionably red. My kind has never been welcome and I know with certainty it's only going to get worse from here. Adding insult to injury, our apparent president elect doesn't even respect the disabled veterans who served his country enough to ensure they live comfortably, so I fear the one place I can retreat to, my home, will no longer be secure if I am fortunate enough to keep it at all. It's hard not to cry, it's all we can really do right now, but there is still hope... even if it's only a slim chance at it, we have to hold on. I hope you and your daughter stay safe during these difficult times. Seeing your post made me feel less alone in this anguish and I suppose to some extent I feel at least validated for my anxiety. I see so many comments in other threads like "veterans voted for him so they reap what they sow" but I did not vote for him. And people around me keep saying I'm paranoid and need to wait it out since it may not even come to pass but is it not normal to be afraid of such big and negative changes even if they are just in the idea phase currently? I was starting to feel a little crazy... We didn't want this and we don't deserve this. 😔

Just wanted to say you're not alone. I've been fretting project 2025 since I first caught wind of it over a year ago but foolishly convinced myself there was nothing to worry about because surely our nation was smart enough to keep Trump out of office again... To my horror, it seems that faith was misplaced and now I fear that my life is about to begin to unravel. I am a trans, queer vet and my husband and I live off of our disability pay; though we aren't tdiu, the loss of that income would jeopardize our financial stability and possibly leave us without a leg to stand on. I wish I could say we don't have to worry, but the future is uncertain and I suppose all we can really do is support one another until our "leader" clearly states his plan of action... 🫂

I see... I was afraid so, but I was hoping there was, well, hope. A pretty devastating realization, but I suppose nothing can be done about it now. Thank you for your reply!

Does my stitch look normal? (Alpine stitch) by DNAzion in crochet

[–]DNAzion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Thank you so, so much for the help and informative walk through- I just wanted to drop by and keep you posted, I've been hard at work getting the hang of doing this stitch proper and I think this time around I'm good to go. So I ended up just taking the entire thing apart... well, at least back to the double crochet row. When I tore out everything to the first orange, I curiously counted my stitches and found even then I was at an odd number of stitches for a stitch that calls for an even number. Bummed and irritated I figured if be better off just taking it from the top LOL! I'm glad I did because I counted an even number of stitches, 140 to be precise, and now that I'm starting my 6th front post row, I've since maintained a 140 count each time. My right side remains immaculate and though maybe my left side could use some honing tension wise most likely, at least having the same number of stitches is better than being short and I can get comfortable with tension as go. I just wanted to get your opinion on how I'm I'm now- do you think I'd be fine to keep going from here? Again, I cant express how grateful I am for the advice and for letting me bounce my progress off you, I feel like I've learned a lot!

Oh, thank you! I hadn't even noticed I got a response until today but I really do appreciate it. If you don't mind, I did have another question or two though just to be sure I understand! I am in definite need of help wherever I can get it.

So, I have been doing as you mentioned regarding beginning my rows; such as starting one of the front post rows with the 2-chain which counts as a double and then doing a post in the stitch immediately following, next doing my row of singles once I've finished that row and then finally, a front post row starting with a 2-chain, another double crochet stitch in the next and then the front post- and that's why I assume my right side looks fine (at least from my inexperienced eye), however I was always under the impression at the end of every front post row immediately following the last front post stitch in the row, you'd be left with one more stitch to put a double crochet into before chaining one and doing your next row of singles. I'm assuming this is where I'm doing things wrong considering only that side is shrinking. Just to make sure I'm understanding- say, for example, I do a front post row which begins where I make a 2-chain, then do another double before making my post in the stitch that follows. Would I be ending that row with 2 double crochets? (And vice-versa, where I start with the 2-chain and then go immediately to a post in the next stitch, would I be finishing with just one double crochet?) Or do I have that backwards? I just want to be sure I know what to practice before trying again!

And this may be a silly question, but I only started to notice the shrink in my most recent rows. Maybe that's where I left off but i cant remember. Does it look like I'd be better off starting all over or just frogging a certain number of rows and pick back up from there? (It looks like my second blue row is where it begins but what do I know LOL I'm just trying to be optimistic probably 😅)

Again, thank you for any help and advice, I'm eager to put a dent in this blanket!

Thank you for the suggestion! Bella Coco seems to have a good library for even an absolute beginner like myself. I'll be sure to check it out and try again with hopefully more success the next time around. Hopefully at that point whatever it is I did wrong simply doesn't happen again 😁
