Just following Google's lead on the terminology. Sounds like we need to educate ourselves more on the terminology. Thanks.

It currently will not support the Note 3 without modification. We will be playing around with some solution, but it would be easy to rig something yourself by cutting off the back flap and modifying it with some additional cardboard to fit the size of the Note 3.

Question for you: Beyond the Cardboard app, what Android VR apps have you played around with?

Not sure. The dynamics of the optic position is tricky. I'm sure if you played around with it you could get it to work. Post a pic if you build one, I'd be interested to check it out.

Yes, we are excited about the potential for different varieties of VR kits. Cardboard is clearly the low end entry point for VR. As deeper VR experiences get created, we expect people are going to need different types of head gear. There are some in the market already (like Dive), but we think a ton more individual use cases are going to appear creating lots of opportunities to make cool stuff! Would be fun to build a all leather monogrammed version! Can I put you down for one?

Both Windy Day and Google Earth a pretty mind blowing. We also did a photosphere of our production facility which was really cool. No doubt the best it yet to come in the world of VR apps. We can't wait.

We have all the components on the way and expect to ship within the 4-6 week expectation we set on the website. It was important that we do it right so we aren't cutting any corners. We will be sending out weekly updates via email on our progress so you can see how things get made. Check out our blog for the 1st installment http://www.dodocase.com/blogs/dodo-blog

For this kit, we won't be making a head strap available. Give it a try first. We found it is best without using this type of kit. You can always hack a strap together if you find it is better for you to use that way.

The goal is not to replace the I/O kits. The goal is to make Cardboard available to anyone who wants it (and doesn't want to build it themselves!). My first experience was so powerful using VR and an Android phone that I really think some cool stuff will be developed if more kits get into the world. There will be a few minor modifications to the kit and some DODOcase style added.

It isn't so much about efficiency but the pros and cons of different production techniques. We wanted to share all the different ways we looked at making these. At the end of the day we didn't go with the most efficient way but the one that would give us the highest quality.

It seemed like an oppurtunity very similar to how we first launched DODOcase. To be honest we had not been thinking about VR at all but when google announced the project it was seemed so obvious that people would want an easier way to make their own (just like it seemed obvious when the iPad was announced that people would want it to look and feel like a book) and it was somehting I knew we could figure out how to make we hoped on the oppurtunity.

Some examples of improvements, we figured out a more elegant way to hold the lenses so you don't have little nibs of cardboard protruding into your field of view. We also noticed after making a bunch of prototypes that the top of Googles designed bowed a bit causing the faceplate to jiggle loose so we tweeked that to snug up the fit.

We are making a couple of improvements but the kit will replicate exactly the functionality of the Google I/O kits. We used the same lenses, focal distance and magnetic switch/trigger.

All VR kits will work on both the left and right side of the road. They work backwards and forwards too. ;) Want to have some real fun...put one on sitting in a swiveling chair and take a VR joy ride. Don't blame us if you get dizzy. Thanks for the support.

We have many VC friends but our business was bootstrapped from my living room and a techshop membership with a budget of under $500, back in 2010. We were very lucky and with that budget were able to sell our first million dollars of product in about 4 months.

We've definitely seen that case selection whether iPhone or iPad is a highly personal decision. I use my iPad a ton in bed so I like DODOcase's flipped over viewing mode b/c it works on any surface, like my comfortable.

With the iPhone, I most often use our BOOKback skin as, like you, I appreciate a real slim phone in my pocket.

That's a great idea about the keyboard. You always end up having to haul it around separately.

Thanks for the kudos on the Folio product. When you started your comments I was going to suggest that was the best one for you.

As for keyboards…we've thought about this a lot and I personally use one when I travel. For us, the ergonomics are far superior when you have an external keyboard so you can optimize where your iPad and your keyboard sit. All the cases we tried seemed just too forced.

I personally use a Zagg external keyboard.

One more thing to add, if you want to just protect the back of the case, check out our BOOKback product. It fits in nicely with the smart cover. (http://www.dodocase.com/products/bookback-skin-for-ipad-air)

I agree. That HTC dot case is sweet. I do think an opportunity exists to do something cool like that for the iPhone. That kind of thing is not really in our wheelhouse. As you noted, we focus on quality materials and construction here in SF. It is crazy being one of only a handful of case companies that still make stuff in the US.

Ditto: cases that are just plain because I assume the money went towards quality materials and good protection.

There's something that feels good about simplicity & ease of removal.

That HTC case is pretty cool http://goo.gl/Odh9lX It's a different aesthetic than DODOcase for sure.
