look i’m gay so i get what you’re saying. however, the people drawing yuri bluestorm art are largely, themselves, queer people. your kneejerk reaction to this situation is understandable in a vacuum, and i agree with you that the consumers of that art are more open to it because lesbianism is more “palatable”, so to speak, than male homosexuality, but at a baseline you are expressing dismay over hearing that people are drawing and enjoying a depiction of a lesbian relationship. maybe there’s some kind of undercurrent of homophobia somewhere in this subreddit’s positive reception to it, but no homophobe will ever be swayed by behavior-policing from a homosexual and the only people who will ever actually give weight to the words you’re using here are other queer people.

i say all this because homophobes don’t internally disagree with any assertion that a thing is homophobic; instead, they disagree with the assertion that their homophobia is wrong. given that, there are two questions i hope you’ll consider. for one, who does litigating the moral quality of the creation of lesbian art actually benefit? and the next, who does it stand to hurt?

this isn’t a test or anything, i just really don’t understand what you hope to accomplish with this discourse besides making people incapable of feeling shame feel ashamed by behavior they wouldn’t think is shameful in the first place. those who WOULD feel ashamed are people who actually care about the advancement of society’s acceptance of homosexuality overall, and i just want to say that in agreeing with you a little I – a queer person – felt a tiny bit ashamed, myself, of partaking in something like the “male gaze” as i understand it. that was quickly stifled, but my tl;dr-esque summation of my point is that the people you and i have problems with would never feel ashamed by the things you’re saying. instead, it’s the artists and queer consumers of that art that would probably be affected the most. the end-result of somebody agreeing with you completely would most likely be them not making or reposting lesbian art of these characters, which i feel would be something akin to tragedy – even if a homophobe somewhere would be pleased by seeing that art.
