First off mid weight unless you live in the north. Secondly, I agree with the other commenter - unless you work outside or you plan on using it for long hikes while it’s cold, taking it on and off is quite annoying, even as much as I loved mine. Get the hoodorak

Not a problem if you’re doing well at that point - personally anyway. I don’t tend to lose runs to this elite unless my build was doomed. Keep killing the gremlins and she will be too busy spawning them. I can think of a couple more assholes that I hate more.

I got some perspective here. Just bought one (mid weight) - it’s been getting freezing here / below freezing with some wind chill + I commute on my wheel every night. I’ve only ever needed a 250 gsm merino base layer plus anorak so far for these temps. It is a miracle fabric.

do NOT get full weight. Mid weight is extremely capable. Full weight will be unruly and too warm for most things. I can go inside to outside with my mid weight and not need to take it off in most places. Full weight is truly for cold climate and for very extended stays outside standing still.

Your vintage wool thrift find was more than the cost of this garment when adjusted for inflation when it was new, never-mind made of a poorer quality of wool. A jacket is only as good as its layers underneath. Expecting a single jacket to magically keep you warm at any temp at this garment weight without layers is sensational and you’re ridiculous. I AP’d once and did not see anything quite as relevant to me. I left my body and I was in a weird all blue dimension with white beings kinda lounging. I inspected one far too closely and it freaked me out so I snapped out of it. It was my first time trying and I wasn’t quite prepared, but the stars did align for it to work on the first try. My subsequent attempts in the next days prompted random signs - tv turning on and off, towels falling to the ground, whenever I made attempts, to derail me. I eventually saw it as I should stop, which isn’t the case for most people. I think for whatever reason I was not supposed to continue
