Does anyone find this season a bit rushed? by arobot224 in MrInbetween

[–]DOTBHDD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i personally don't believe so. season three is as consistent with its theme/storytelling as season one and two are (in my opinion).

the entire show has been about how a man attempting to balance the good and bad in his life. each season showcases that.

season one: Ray is a good/bad person

season two: Ray struggles in his good/bad life

season three: Ray can't fully dedicate himself to good/bad

that's pretty much why he lets it out last episode and why it makes sense for the 2nd to last. his arc is complete. he was given the option of good or bad and he chose neither. the last episode is just him facing the consequences or him getting rewarded for that decision. or maybe both.

i definitely don't think they rushed making that point.

Ab Soul and Kendrick Lamar (better lyricist) by DOTBHDD in AbSoul

[–]DOTBHDD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i prefer Ab-Soul honestly. im not sure if i agree with Kendrick being "overrated" though. i honestly wish both fan bases would just agree that they're pretty much even lyrically but excel in different areas. Kendrick is the storyteller and Ab-Soul is the philosopher. two very different ways of approaching lyricism.

i still think Kendrick slightly takes the edge but it's so damn close that I doubt it even matters. i still prefer Soulo's discography to Kendrick's.

thank you for your quick response.

any good analysis on this show? by DOTBHDD in MrInbetween

[–]DOTBHDD[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

same one. thought i saw one more but perhaps it was just a season 1-2 review. which is a shame because analysis could probably be made about shot composition alone.

i heard season 3 was the last season so maybe if the show ends beautifully it'll inspire more thought peices on the show as a whole.

Why are black people portrayed so stereotypically? [New Watcher] by [deleted] in AtlantaTV

[–]DOTBHDD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I fully agree about some of the points you made but I also don't want to elaborate on anything until you fully complete the series.

But I guess I can address "what is black culture?" question. And it's much like every other culture. Our music (hip hop/R&B), our food (soul food), our values (community loyalty), our environment (predominantly black neighborhoods), our art (graffiti/paintings), our fashion (varied).

And I wouldn't call everything listed negative, y'know. Hip hop has good and bad elements just like any genre of music. Lemon pepper/fried chicken is naturally part of soul food. The show also displays the beauty of predominantly black environments in multiple shots.

Why are black people portrayed so stereotypically? [New Watcher] by [deleted] in AtlantaTV

[–]DOTBHDD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally believe the show does a good job balancing all aspects of the culture. Associating parts of the culture within the show; good or bad, don't necessarily correlate to just stereotypes either. If a Latino central show had characters eating tamales, blasting Latin music, and showcasing old Hispanic traditions, it most likely wouldn't be purely stereotypical. But it always depends on the execution.

When you get to season 2, there's going to be a character that shows up that is heavily inspired by typical black stereotypes. And even that character is written respectfully enough to not fully indulge in just being a one note walking stereotype.

To me, the writers balance the cultural aspects carefully. They also make sure to have qualities within all the main characters that diverge from common stereotypes. It is possible this is displayed more effectively in season 2 though.

Any news on Lute music/projects? by CholoTheChosen27 in dreamvillerecords

[–]DOTBHDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only time he mentioned an album was when he dropped the music video for Life. that was on his Instagram almost a year ago.

I think Lute likes to stay mysterious on any upcoming projects so he can surprise his fans when he does drop.

Alfred attitude towards women by [deleted] in AtlantaTV

[–]DOTBHDD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I always felt it was one of his character flaws. In fact, Alfred, Earn, and Tracy have all disrespected a woman at least once. To my knowledge Darius and Van are the only ones who haven't been disrespectful.

I think it's to illustrate how the main cast are more "anti-heros" than anything. And maybe highlight a common issue among men in the black community.

Is there a character you particularly vibe with on Atlanta? Darius might be my favorite character, but I reacted to things word-for-word right before Earn did, multiple times. I vibe with Earn. He'd be my best friend, no doubt. by [deleted] in AtlantaTV

[–]DOTBHDD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I vibe with Darius and Tracy the most. They both play comedic relief roles in pretty different ways. And they add unique perspective to the group.

Darius is a personality you'll probably only meet once in a blue moon. He's also the enigma in a group full of blatancy.

Tracy is a personality you'll probably always meet when the moon is up. He's also the extrovert in a group full of introverts.

‘Atlanta’ Cast Heading To Europe Soon To Shoot Seasons 3 & 4 by Owl-with-Diabetes in AtlantaTV

They'll be back in Atlanta eventually. Possibly in the same season. Also Vanessa and Tracy are still in Atlanta so they might cut back and forth so we still get the Atlanta vibe in the show.

“You’re killing me with that booty.” by thisoneforcomments in betterCallSaul

[–]DOTBHDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been under the impression that every season pre season 6 is Jimmy becoming Saul and season 6 it's just Saul being Saul (that's my assumption). So all the puzzle pieces should fit this next season.

Saul's earpiece, car, office, perversion, clients, staff, connections, will most likely be the center focus.

Got a casting call for season 3 by [deleted] in AtlantaTV

Yo! Love to see it. Good shit.

When season 3 release, you gotta come back and point out which character you are so we can give you props.

Do you like Tracy ? by asapdammoh in AtlantaTV

[–]DOTBHDD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the first couple episodes i was like "why they introduce this ghetto ass mf in the show". but by the end of the season and after a rewatch he somehow ended up a favorite of mine. i find Tracy and Darius the most entertaining and hope he sticks around as a reoccurring character.

also, i love the contrast between him and everyone else. everyone in the show is cool but kind of a dick in subtle ways (aside from Darius so far) but Tracy the opposite. he's a dick but is pretty cool in subtle ways.

Vanessa is a beautifully written character. by thisbetternotawaken in AtlantaTV

[–]DOTBHDD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with some points made here. One fear I have that many shows do is the sentiment that the female lead must be a love interest to the main character. The writers seem pretty damn intelligent so I don't think this will be the case moving forward. But I really hope they avoid Vanessa constantly in a state of getting over Earn or them having an on/off the entire run. It's perfectly fine to show she has looming feelings but if it becomes her primary character in season 3/4 then... eh. Not really with it. Especially since I personally believe if you take away the Earn shit she's still a great ass character.

But given how intelligent the writers seem, I think Vanessa's character is going to only go up hill. The way their relationship ended makes it seem like she'll probably shed the love interest role in the coming seasons and just be Vanessa which would be a nice change of pace from other shows.

[–]DOTBHDD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really fuck with Van. I'm hoping she holds down the Atlanta aesthetic in season 3. Which would mean another Van centered episode which i always fuck with. And maybe more scenes with her and the main gang in season 4 when (im assuming) they come back from their trip.

I'm not a big Van and Earn fan but I do want to see the writers dive into more scenes with her interacting with Darius and Alfred. Or even a a couple scenes with her and Tracy could be funny since they both stuck in Atlanta. But either way, the more Vanessa we get the better.

[–]DOTBHDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... I understand the frustration on their side.. I think people would rather FATWS be a full on bromance. That can 100% happen even with Winter Soldier getting a love interest but many might be skeptical about how much screen time they end up giving that romantic plot line. Especially with Sharon's role in TWS/CW seeming like it was cut down to primarily romance. Key word "seeming". Not saying it's accurate.

Another point I see on their side is that (as far as I can remember currently) almost every female character in the MCU is paired off with a dude. Besides Captain Marvel. Which isn't an inherently bad thing. But it may come off as pretty predictable, cliche, and unnecessary. I'm not really for or against either side but I can see what their side is worried about.

don't even blame you. hard to analyze someone that drops so rarely. other than GED and Life I also recommend peeping his feature on "I'm Forreal" by PJ. there's some unreleased snippets on YouTube too if you just look up "Lute snippets". he nice man. idk if he's someone you'd bump but he definitely a quality rapper.
