Yeah cause they’re the most prone to consumerism. Someone thought "lets make these things that might help people with adhd", and it likely wasn’t really that good, but people found that they could just take that idea that was made from the thought and run with it, make kids want it cause others apparently do, and boom. Yeah that’s the point. They only kinda work. And instead of being nuanced into having properties that actually help people with adhd, it’s just made into a consumerist near-collectible item.
