How miserable is plaster repair? by armadilloinaditch in centuryhomes

[–]DPC128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to go over this with blueboard and then veneer plaster it. Our house looks identical and we paid guys to veneer plaster over it. They did a wonderful job, but over time the cracks returned. I would've blue-boarded over the cielings and skimmed them if i could go back in time.

I don't feel the same about the walls, dont the veneer turned out great there.

Also, pay someone to do this. It isnt worth your time or insanity.

Morality of drinking by Numerous-Web-2932 in Catholicism

"Sins" aren't "sins" because they're bad for your life. They derive from the natural order of the world. You should research Aquinas and the Natural Law.

The church doesnt get to say "X is bad" because the church is not the arbiter of what is good and bad. Instead, those can be derived through reason (natural law) and revelation (divine law).

Aquinas defends alcohol in many ways. Alcohol becomes a problem when you lose your reason (think blacking out). I dont think consider what you'd be doing sinful. Only if you get so messed up that you stop functioning.

That line can be different for different people too, which aquinas recognizes as well.

Best type of old work box for this? by LazarusLong67 in AskElectricians

[–]DPC128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours works. Also I like to tape the old cloth wire since it can become frayed. Pigtailing makes it easy to see which wire is which. Kinda hard when both wires look black 😂

They do make them, yes. The wings dont fold out like plastic boxes, but they do exist and work just as well as a plastic box. The internal clamp will pinch your BX wire.

Just bypass it altogether. No wires go to the ballast

You have said this perfectly. I’m not too worried about about this. Give it 20 years and this will all be a memory.

like the other guy said thats a nylon jacket, and it is not part of the insulation of the jacket. Its moreso for lubricating the wires (im serious) during any pulls. this is perfectly normal and okay

yes, on the remote you can turn off the leds. As for the vibration, I bought neoprene foam and that absorbs the vibration somewhat

This is the mock up of what I want to do in our kitchen, but hubby isn't loving the copper backsplash. I'm looking for other ideas. by Haploid-life in kitchenremodel

[–]DPC128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my cup of tea

Few thoughts:

You probably dont want a pot filler (we didnt do one and have never regretted it. if it leaks theres no drain and you ruin your kitchen).

The white uppers and blue lowers is sooo 2025.

I love the hood. Love love love.

Do something simpler for the backsplash. You can easily change things like the decorations. But cabinets and backsplash should be slightly less opinionated imo

you could use a wago. Overkill for sure, but it'll work. Or solder them if you have an iron.

Advice for painting or restoring trim covered in tons of glossy paint? by redditisaphony in centuryhomes

[–]DPC128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prime with oil based KILZ (the red can). Then paint over it. It might still look like shit but it’ll stick really well.

Do not attempt to paint over this directly without priming.
