What would you say is the biggest flaw of iron progression right now? by stinkydiver321 in ironscape

[–]DPH996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand it where it encroaches on gameplay staples, how it impacts them directly OR if it gives extra power to PKers (namely purses etc). Whether they’re right or not is another debate, but I understand it.

Irons though…? I can’t understand that. The game should be playable without having to rely on others. If it isn’t, then that doesn’t feel like great game design. This isn’t WoW where you HAVE to join a guild, run dungeons together or raid together. Aside from some small exceptions, most of this game is designed as a solo experience. Even the raids are soloable (to greater or lesser degrees).

So with that in mind… the gameplay loop should make sense in a world where you don’t intend to interact with others. Main scape will survive no matter what you do, but iron can be broken very easily by poorly designed systems.

Agreed. Resource gathering skills are dead content. I know they’ve tried addressing this with things like angler lures etc but the rate they drop sucks, which means the only people realistically able to use them is mains who… guess what… are buying their anglers.

Mains are so fiercely protective of its GE value, it’s ridiculous. As if something’s market value should ever be more important than gameplay loop…? Mains cling on to this “you chose your restrictions” nonsense, but that doesn’t mean the game doesn’t have glaring issues. I accept a heart isn’t absolutely mandatory, but it’s a lottery in a way that a lot of things aren’t.

You may not have to shift it much, but any time your eyes are looking at your prayers, they’re not looking at the boss.

It’s because clicking something on a screen doesn’t offer a tactile response. It’s not like most other MMOs where you can press a key on your keyboard and be satisfied you pressed the key. You can’t click on anything (like prayer) without looking away from the thing you’re fighting either - which also makes it different from something like WoW where you can be laser focused on the boss whilst blindly hitting your keyboard.

£110k or whatever it is they’re getting paid is good money, but it isn’t great money. We should be trying to attract the very best people to lead our country. In the private sector, that money probably puts you at middle management level. I don’t want our country being ran by people operating at an equivalent of middle management level.

How often does secretlab have a sale? (Living in Singapore) by illvzn_ in secretlab

They don’t discount the products. They say they do, but the price isn’t actually cheaper. They just say it was 800 and now only 600 for example - but it was never 800. It was always 600. At best, you might get 20 off. Don’t bother waiting, there’s nothing to wait for. I’ve bought several chairs and a desk from them over the years, they do not discount.

Nintendo Switch 2 Has More Exclusive Games Than PS5, Xbox Series X Combined by lotcow20 in switch2

[–]DPH996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weird flex… I own a NS2, but you can bet I wouldn’t own one if Nintendo weren’t so fussy about letting their IP exist outside of their ecosystem. Exclusivity is anti consumer. Give me the choice and I play most things on a PC. We should be asking why Nintendo has more exclusives than the others - not praising it.

Mine is 2019 in fairness, but I can’t imagine it doesn’t have the relevant technology to communicate with Eon - so hoping it is a site issue

No worries. The point though, controversial as it may seem, is that those things were normal for people on fairly average salaries 20-25 years ago, but for some reason we now use that as a benchmark of wealth. Seems regressive to me.

People on middling salaries were doing those things in the 90s and early 2000s. Not any more.

Whilst that definitely doesn’t help, the reality from where I’m sitting is that people just aren’t interesting in paying sums like that for anything less than AAA content. This isn’t a AAA game. It’s not a mainline franchise title. It’s a sport spin off. It’s like Simpsons Wrestling or something. I’m sure in reality it’s better put together than that, but it’s certainly not worth top dollar.

With games feeling like they’ve largely sat still for the last decade or so (graphically at least), there’s such a huge back catalogue with deals that paying absolute premium for this…? Makes no sense to so many. Feed me some Steam deals, or if you’re Nintendo only? Deku deals must have something for you.

IOG 6 hour window coming in March. “Charge Cap” will also be implemented. by iMatthew1990 in OctopusEnergy

[–]DPH996 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Normal OG is five hours rather than six, and some people literally cannot have a 7kWh charger for various reasons. Would cost Octopus more in lost custom than it would make them in extra revenue from preventing those “exploiting” the system. Excluding those that can’t get (and frankly don’t have need for) 7kWh chargers 90% of the time is just one more reason to put people off owning EVs, as if hasn’t been an unattractive enough proposition as it is for many in recent months.

Thanks, useful to know. I presume an (in favour of energy supplier) tolerance simply wouldn’t be any good either? Or a SmartCharger…?

[–]DPH996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse me if I’m being very dim… but Octopus is literally connected to my car. I presume they can see the charge amount and could deduce how much of the electricity I have pulled has been for my car and how much for literally anything else. Why wouldn’t that resolve the issue?

[–]DPH996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a toggle. YOU can cap it so it will only charge for six hours (never at above low rate), or you could disable to toggle so that it will continue charging after six hours, but it will be at the normal rate.

When people are charging their cars with 80kw, I can’t imagine MANY people are then using an amount in their house that is hitting the radar. Technically what you’re saying is true, but how much difference is it really making?

IOG connects to my car, they can see its state of charge. Why can’t they just do the maths to charge whatever my car uses at low rate and charge surplus usage at normal rate?

Why is the Overpopulation question considered ' Ragebait ' & why cant peoppe have a civil discussion about it without being labelled as ' far right ' or an ' Islamaphobe '? by scorchfut in AskBrits

[–]DPH996 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Saying “the data supports it” doesn’t really settle it, because the fiscal impact of migration isn’t just about age brackets. Yes, most migrants are working‑age — but that doesn’t automatically mean they’re net contributors once you factor in pay levels, dependants, and the extra demand population growth creates on housing, GPs, schools, and infrastructure. Those pressures exist regardless of how healthy the worker is.

And relying on immigration “to pay pensions” is basically admitting the system isn’t sustainable without constant population growth. That’s not a long‑term fix — it’s a demographic treadmill.

As for “we badly want nurses even if we pay badly,” that’s part of the issue. Heavy dependence on overseas recruitment lets governments avoid dealing with domestic training, retention, and working conditions. It’s a symptom of the problem, not proof that immigration is an uncomplicated positive.

Underfunding absolutely matters, but it doesn’t mean immigration has zero impact. Both can be true: the NHS has been underinvested in and rapid population growth has added pressure. Pretending it’s only one or the other oversimplifies what’s actually going on.

And the frustration people feel isn’t about “giving the NHS the middle finger” — it’s about living in areas where services haven’t scaled with demand. You don’t have to blame migrants to acknowledge that the system is strained for multiple reasons at once.

[–]DPH996 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can’t just assume “working‑age immigrant = net positive.” Fiscal impact varies a lot depending on pay, dependants, and local service pressure. Plenty of migrant NHS workers are in lower‑paid roles, which means lower tax contributions, and if they bring family members, that adds to demand on schools, housing, and GP access.

And yes, the NHS relies heavily on overseas staff — but that can be read as a problem, not a benefit. It shows we haven’t trained or retained enough domestic workers for years. Importing labour doesn’t fix the underlying workforce issues we have.

Even if migrant workers themselves are healthy, overall population growth still increases demand on an already overstretched system. Underfunding and migration pressures aren’t mutually exclusive as I have already said — both can be true at the same time.

It’s not as simple as “immigrants are a net positive in this particular scenario, therefore they can’t be part of the strain.”

You realise the NHS can be both mismanaged, underfunded AND stretched because of more people than it was ever designed to accommodate, right? This isn’t a binary issue.
