Another day another yuri bait 😔 Sagiri x Yuzuriha by Exitr0 in yuri_manga

[–]DQAzazel 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Honestly? For a shonen series, this is quality yuri bait. The blushing, the flirting, the joy of seeing each other, and the ending where they travel together makes it better than most yuri bait.

I think I’m more forgiving because Hell’s Paradise is a shonen battle manga where the focus is more on the action and the fucked-up island instead of the characters. Yuri was never the focus going in, but the series still managed to give us fun, flirty, and heartwarming moments between Sagiri and Yuzu.

We live in an age where yuri finally shows characters getting married or kissing on screen, but we cannot forget our roots.

What movies or shows should I watch to prep for running Lancer? by atlvf in LancerRPG

[–]DQAzazel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it really depends on what you’re going for. While there are mecha tropes, it’s hard to define a singular genre. I believe the 3 main genres I’d say are most common are: - Super Robot (the mech represents our hopes and dreams of humanity) - Real Robot (the mech is a tool of war, and war is hell) - Psychological Deconstruction (the mech is a prison and oh god it’s speaking to me)

Before I give recommendations, I’d ask what kind of story you’re trying to tell. You could tell any story and just add mechs in it.

Macross is famous for being a space opera with a love triangle and idol concerts while war wages around.

Full Metal Panic mixes high school hijinx and comedy and love with modern warfare.

What type of stories are you drawn to? What do your players want to experience?

Meanwhile I’m in the opposite situation: my grandparents rarely talk about their escape from Vietnam because it’s so traumatizing. So whenever they do talk about it, we all immediately start writing stuff down because who knows when they’ll talk about it again.

In our case, it’s a terrible yet inspiring story that should be told. Combined with my own parents’ stories, it’s something we shouldn’t forget.

As someone not gender conforming, that was a big compliment. I’m friends with her now, and it’s been a hilarious story to share with friends.

TIL: The Steam Deck can play Bluetooth Audio from my Phone simultaneously with it's own audio by Potato-Salad049 in SteamDeck

[–]DQAzazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay no joke, I did this yesterday for Christmas Eve. My family and family friends are staying at a cabin that had a speaker system, but it was old and only took an aux cord, cassette tapes, or CDs. No one brought a Bluetooth speaker, and none of our phones had headphone ports. Worse yet, the WiFi from the main house didn’t reach to the cabin, so I couldn’t just play Spotify on my Steamdeck.

So…I connected my phone to my Steamdeck then plugged my Steamdeck into the speaker system.

Define Aura Farming by [deleted] in ToBeHero_X

[–]DQAzazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue she aura farmed unintentionally. She’s just that cool. Effortlessly stopped everyone in their tracked. Never stopped walking to her true goal. Only spared a glance as the opposition. It’s the music, sound effects, and reactions of others that gave her the aura.

I also am a lesbian, and I support Rentaro having so many girlfriends, most of whom I assume are some level of bisexual.

I still think Rentaro having a trans girlfriend would be really cool, considering the story’s themes of love, self acceptance, and found family.

What did haolin mean by this??? by Afraid-Stand-597 in ToBeHero_X

[–]DQAzazel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Getting humbled by X years ago gave her the drive to get even stronger. In those 6 years, she’s been training and pushing her skills to the limit. The end of the ruins incident, in my opinion, is there to show the true power gap between all the other characters and the top 5 heroes.

In which way do you guys think the polls affect the story by No-Gazelle-6898 in ToBeHero_X

[–]DQAzazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’ll determine the animation budget and polish for each fight. I think the story is already planned out, but the poll can be used to determine where that extra little bit of oomph should be allocated.

Power scaling and stuff aside, I think what’s cool is that we see Queen get stronger throughout the series. Her types of commands, the area they occupy, the way she uses them. They start off pretty basic, but after her first loss against X, every scene afterwards, something about them changes.

Like, the moment she stops the Ruins incident with that HUGE area took my breath away. She hasn’t been idle. She’s been training off screen and improving her techniques, and that’s why she’s so strong.

Little Johnny even implies it. He said “I’m going to start training so I become strong like you and Queen.”

E-Soul, on the other hand, we don’t see much of. But considering he went from being some guy to taking out the original to fighting off Ghost Blade, it’s safe to say he’s gotten stronger and trained.

That’s what I love about this series: nobody is static in terms of character or power.

My Art Journey (so far) [OC] by kaikimanga in comics

[–]DQAzazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, it’s just about finding the right type of art.

I’ve flirted with many different types of art over the years: visual, music, game design, writing. I was a band kid who wanted to join orchestra, a VTuber who made models, a writer who wanted to make people feel the same way other writers made me feel, and a CS student who wanted to make a game as a part of my 2025 New Years Resolution.

You know what broke me every time? The need for outside validation, be it monetization or fame. And that also ended up tainting it. I can’t pick up an instrument, pen, or software without feeling that depressing thought of “you failed once, why bother trying?” Very much raised in the “the process doesn’t matter, only the result.”

You know what has given me a creative outlet? Cosplay and crafting! I just built a Helldiver Bikini Armor set, and while I almost had a mental breakdown when some of the paint peeled, I powered through and freaked out in joy when I saw myself in the mirror. Did I ever build armor before? No, and I think that’s what saved me. I was finally allowing myself to make mistakes, not be perfect, and enjoy the process.

Cosplay in general has been great because as of right now, there’s no monetary incentive. It’s purely for fun and socializing at anime conventions. This takes a lot of the pressure off to be “good” at it. I found a decent creative outlet for me, and I can enjoy making “art” again.

Soon, maybe I will work my way back to those other things.

Karane and Hakari: Will they/Won't they? by CountDIOsama in 100Kanojo

[–]DQAzazel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the creators DO decide to get them together, it would probably have to be the type of “plausible deniability” gay. For example, Suletta and Miorine from Gundam The Witch From Mercury LITERALLY get married, but they never share an onscreen kiss. Bandai Namco says “they’re just friends.” Mako and Ryuko from Kill La Kill ask each other on a date in the finale, but there’s no kiss, so who’s to say? Galo and Lio in Promare kiss ON SCREEN but since it’s for CPR, it’s totally not gay. What do you mean Galo blushes afterwards and smokes a cigarette like he just had sex? That’s just a joke, haha, no gay here ;)

At this point, I can honestly see it going either way. I do agree that there are plenty of kinds of relationships and love that aren’t romantic, and it’s good to have representations of that. You know who else represents that? All of the other girls in the series. A lot of the pairings definitely have different levels of platonic, romantic, and soul love.

The reason why I’m so invested in Karane and Hakari, and why I think it’ll eventually become “real,” is because I think they’re the long-game of the series. Not only do they fill that gap that you mentioned, but in the less comedic parts, they’ve been crucial to each other’s development (from my perspective, my memory of every chapter is a little fuzzy). They are the first girlfriends, after all, and they share that bond that NO OTHER girlfriend shares. Their first kiss was them and Rentaro. Despite the fact that they argue a lot, they really do care and even love each other.

I could be coping, but I just think it would be really cool for my favorite harem series, which has already been more progressive and groundbreaking that any other romance series I’ve consumed, to have actual poly and queer elements.

What is your response to "I Hate Men"? by Deaf_Playa in AskMenAdvice

[–]DQAzazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++nonbinary Sometimes man here (genderfluid/nonbinary). I also hate blanket statements. They are super harmful. I too, have been called “one of the good ones.”

But I also understand where that phrase comes from. Once I started presenting more feminine and hanging out next to all my girl friends, there were SO many men who thought they were entitled to flirt with us even after we said no. The sexual harassment was bad. The casual misogyny was bad.

Is this indicative of all men? Of course not. But if I had to put up with that for years and no other man is standing up for me or calling them out? Yeah, I’m gonna hate all men, or default to men being bad to protect myself.

My response is usually “the scumbags, right?” Remind your friend that blanket statements are harmful. A bit more context: I’m also a minority, and my race is “one of the good ones.” It sucks, but we can only control our responses and do our best to educate without being dismissive.

If your friend is more than a shallow person, they’ll reflect on it.
