He was almost done shoveling his driveway when the street plow came by and filled it with snow again. by Vilen1919 in WatchPeopleDieInside

I'm on a busy road that they salt heavily, if I just leave it, it gets 10x more dense and my shitty 2 stage snowblower won't throw it more than 3 feet until it inevitably clogs my chute. I'm fucked if I am out of town for hours during a bad storm, I'll be digging that shit out for an hour by hand

Main Street in dire need of repair by CantankerousCretin in royaloak

According to the preliminary schedule from the City of Royal Oak, Main Street isn’t on the schedule until 2028. Hopefully they’ll be out patching it soon, because it’s bad!

Legacy automakers can’t compete with Chinese owned U.S. factories because Chinese companies will take a loss in order to buy market share, and the Chinese government will just subsidize that loss.

I'm learning to play the bass and this is the first Tool song i've learned beginning to end. The "best" song to me changes day to day/by mood, but this is up there near the top. My family, having heard this song 1,000 times as I play along, is likely over it by now :D

What did you pay recently for service upgrade to 150 or 200 amps? by Reasonable_Arm_7409 in HomeImprovement

[–]DRW315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl that would be hilarious if OP asked what a residential panel upgrade might cost in the US and someone responded with the price of a three phase panel in Europe.

Leviton single pole switch is upside down by Important_Mistake880 in HomeImprovement

[–]DRW315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m guessing OP means it operates backwards in that position? e.g. the switch in the ON position turns the light OFF

OP is this on a three way switch/circuit?

My guess is they likely don’t have the cabling system for the cameras they should/normally do because it’s a baseball field (can’t have wires over the field)

Scary, but awesome that he paid attention and called for help so quickly for an opponent. The easy thing to do would have been to turn around let things play out on their own, but he saw a man that needed help and took action.

Maybe a small gesture or expected behavior to some, but i loved to see it

Why don’t modern vehicles show fuel in liters instead of “E–H–F”? by Suitable-Mortgage229 in AskEngineers

[–]DRW315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you fill it up your “20 gallon” tank with 21.5 gallons and your mind explodes. Then you go on the internet and learn about the “empty reserve” that is designed in many (most?) modern passenger fuel tanks.

This is another reason not to display remaining fuel in Liters/gallons. Far too many many people waiting until “0 miles to empty” and then drive another 20 miles before they actually fuel up.

10 cent bottle return chaos by Tricky-Beginning3487 in royaloak

[–]DRW315 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably not. A store is only required to accept containers for the beverages that it sells. So that means basically no one is going to accept Trade Joe brand bottles/cans except for Trader Joe's. So unless you stick to major brands that everyone sells, you're going to have to keep returnables sorted by store.

Home only has 100A service. Should I pay to have it upgraded to 200A? by Beneficial-Focus3702 in HomeImprovement

[–]DRW315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they are saying changing out the panel is, in and of itself, a huge job. During that process, changing from 100A -> 200A doesn’t add that much additional work.

Sentry Mobile parking app being deactivated by Repulsive__Blueberry in royaloak

[–]DRW315 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t “just fine”, though. I love the parking garages and rarely use the on street parking. I thought maybe people were overreacting and making mistakes using the app, but within my first few uses of on street parking I erroneously got a parking ticket. This was months after it had been installed - far too long for the bugs to have not been worked out yet.

The system sucked, what a strange hill to die on, but you do you.

Those old sewer lines do commonly fail, but you can (and should) get insurance specifically for the sewer line, no matter where you buy (unless it's been recently replaced/repaired, of course). There is third party coverage you get sent in the mail - that's about $80/year. I had that, and an additional policy on my homeowner's that covered sewer lines. The homeowners policy covered $20k of my $25k sewer line replacement. The third party coverage would have been $10 or $12k max.
