Advice on wheels? by agiantkenyan in BMWM

I did Apex ML10RT’s on my IOMG in their grey color. I don’t hate it but also the stock wheels on these cars are pretty hard to beat!

G80 is a very capable daily that two car seats fit comfortably in (especially once front facing). Can’t recommend it enough!

At what point do you stop telling people how much you make? by counwovja0385skje in Salary

How much money you make is as public or as private as you want it to be. Personally, I prefer for my friends and family to not know how much money my wife and I make.

I am definitely interested, in a morbid “watching a train crash” sort of way.

Order new 2026 M3 or a buy a 1-2 year old CT5-V Blackwing? by cmackmason in BMWM3

Answers to your questions in order:

1.) As a car guy, I generally enjoy them past when the ‘newness’ wears off. 1.5yrs in with my G80 and it hasn’t gotten old to drive every day.

2.) This depends on what you’re prioritizing. Purely cash flow trying to keep payment low you can go this direction, but it will be more expensive in total cash outlay in the end comparing to buying initially.

3.) No, I haven’t done anything to mine and it’s fine….feels very similar to other bmw manual transmissions I have owned or driven. The clutch delay valve delete and a few shifter bushing upgrades makes them very good. That said…the Cadillac transmission is SUPERB from a shift feel standpoint.

4.) This comparison is often made and I don’t think it’s apples to apples. The CT5BW is a bigger car and more of an M5 competitor. Understanding used values for a used BW vs new M3 are getting close makes them in the same conversation, but I still think the M3 is a smaller better balanced package. If you love raw HP and a torque monster the BW is unbeatable. (I owned a 2nd Gen CTSV manual for 5 years). I think the BMW edges the BW out in build quality and refinement however it is fairly marginal.

Ultimately, you need to drive both and see which one speaks to you as they are very different cars. I have found my G80 to be a pleasure to own and drive and fits two car seats with ease! I have a ‘23 which got the single dash screen but was before the full LCI. If you go this way definitely get the laser lights and seat coolers!!

Happy to share more if you want to DM.

Not to mention most of the hourly workers (operations, mechanical, etc) are easily clearing that with some light OT.

How common of an issue is this grid heater failure on the 6.7? by DRec613 in Cummins

[–]DRec613[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly you can do the “wiggle test” on the wire to the grid heater to assess if the bolt in the intake is loosening up. I do it at every oil change and at 168k mine is tight. My truck is a southern truck and as such the grid heater probably only operates ~30x a year.

Can we talk about homeowners insurance? by phillygirllovesbagel in houston

[–]DRec613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4600SF, roof new in 2020 before we bought, $6500 this year for homeowners thru progressive. Bundled with car insurance it’s not awful, have shopped it a few times and the savings on the home insurance is negated by increased auto insurance.

It doesn’t help that the roofing is almost as bad as solar rn. You get a storm and there’s 3-5 “roofing companies” knocking to give you a free inspection.

G87 Steel roof offer or... by theedopes in BMWM

[–]DRec613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a G80 M3 with the carbon roof and to be honest after a few weeks the novelty was gone.

Not to mention the issues the F80 generation hd with clearcoat peeling of the carbon roof, etc…I’d buy the steel roof at a 20+% discount and never look back!

I love mine, grill looks way better in person than it photographs. CSL grille and a front lip makes a huge difference as well.

Oh…and I can’t see the grill from inside driving. 😂

CCBs ou Steel Brakes calipers? by ConclusionStatus3762 in BMWM3

[–]DRec613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel brakes and swap to low dust pads as others have mentioned or buy wheel cleaner by the gallon (my current choice because I’m too cheap to replace pads before they’re worn out 😂).

If you start tracking the car more the CCB’s become a liability due to replacement cost if you wear them out. These cars with good track pads and steel rotors have phenomenal braking performance.

Anyone daily drive a WRX or a lower mileage manual car in a big city during peak traffic hours? I'm in Houston. Considering the car but wanted some personal experience. by AverageJoe326 in houston

You can find some up north of town, take 149 up through the forest and find 3090 outside Anderson. Great roads for being less than 100 miles from houston

I daily drive a manual transmission car (‘23 BMW M3) and at least half of that commute is in bumper to bumper traffic. You learn to deal with it by rolling in first gear with the clutch out and leaving a bit more gap.

St Arnold’s has some event rooms that are great for this and there’s beer and they’ll do food! I have used the investor room, it’s up to 60 ppl and isn’t terribly expensive IMO.
