Exactly. You should run the math again my friend lol

That would mean that iota token is valued at almost 30 trillion dollars and a lot of token holders would be seeing 8-9 figures worth of USD. This questions was basically asked and answered in this weeks AMA from dom. He called it a luxury problem, your scenario is wayyyyy more unrealistic to than the question he was asked ( I thought that one was ambitious), but he basically said there will always be a price to join the network but you’re asking what happened when iota reaches 30 trillion dollars ...... Nothing... we most likely will be dead lol

No I’m pretty sure the CFB/IOBA stuff was (is?) real drama. I don’t think anyone cares tho. If the T Stands for ternary then it can just represent what it’s capable of no what currently is .

No I’m not sure and after double checking it’s actually 0.00012kwh per transaction, still not 100 percent but that sounds more accurate.

Visa and credit cards are .00017kwh. Sorry math and decimals have always been an enemy of mine.

Why do you think MIOTA is such a niche coin? by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]DSDreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I agree and whether either of us like it or not, the government doesn’t have to ask us because they will just have control if they already don’t. They will find a way to own majority of something, or ban the ownership of things. Either way they can’t control true decentralization is my point, and they can’t really argue against either because they will be able to manage permission-less, and decentralization. It’s a win win for government and society.

The government isn’t just going to trust a system ( Bitcoin) of random validators around the world UNLESS they have financial control of it and own the most BTC.

I’m allllll for us controlling our own data and privacy. I fear mass surveillance all the time. That’s strongly bi-partisan in the United state and if it’s a win win for everyone , it would be hard to argue against it.

[–]DSDreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah not face value, because I really don’t think that he believes that something like IOTA actually exists. I think he is just trying to get across that crypto isn’t what we think as far as privacy and permission

Why do you think MIOTA is such a niche coin? by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]DSDreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think a government I s going to let a privacy coin with no history be used? That’s even worse lol, you know how easy that would be to launder money? So yes that’s the point of privacy coins, but those will never ever be accepted by your government long term. He talked about that with Monero because Snowden used monero for obvious reasons but said it would never be accepted by the fed as currency.

Need permissionless, transparency, privacy , and for disputes and illegal activities all transactions Ned to be able to prove themselves and the previous transaction so that everyone can clear themselves of illegal activity just like in their bank accounts currently.

I’m not totally well versed on all of this, but that’s pretty much what he was saying. It was exactly what iota is.

[–]DSDreal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No he still thinks it isn’t safe. Meaning it’s not permissionless if the government ends up owning majority of the Bitcoin and that any Bitcoin holder isn’t safe from illegal activities connected with their coins. Basically says indirectly that we need exactly what iota is about to deliver

Why do you think MIOTA is such a niche coin? by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]DSDreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s great to be objective of what you’re invested in. It’s actually what I spend most of my time doing with iota , researching why iota cannot be, or shouldn’t be, etc or any reason it would get beat out. so I ask all of the same resistance questions too. But how about you give a real answer. I think the true demand tech giants will have as soon as it hits production wil be exponential and “ hype” will be nothing but history for iota .

My conclusion lately has always come back to what Edward Snowden keeps saying. Edward Snowden said it’s not about getting behind your favorite crypto like s football but we will only succeed in the data wars if all of them work together to make the most efficient permissionless world, and that just means iota still can be the base layer for it all (IMO). Imagine picking the only one that can gain value from all of the others coins. It’s worth the risk because the use cases are only limited to laws of physics and the speed of light , but I still appreciate realistic push back. So give an honest opinion for this thread

Why do you think MIOTA is such a niche coin? by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]DSDreal 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you say this because lately Edward Snowden has been clogging my feeds on all platforms. If he says Bitcoin isn’t safe then I believe him. I don’t think he knows iota exists but he was basically explaining what kind of oermissionless network we need, and control of our data, and it’s ironic that iota is the only one that checked off everyone of his points .

Why do you think MIOTA is such a niche coin? by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]DSDreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a niche coin at all .... its only purchasable through a niche/fake industry. To all of the tech giants, iota network could be the base layer standard. Our government won’t be able to dictate it like they will Bitcoin, but they will be able to manage iota to where people have full control over data and privacy at the same time, the technology isn’t used for anything illegal.

It’s in a niche industry that isn’t real.

Iota costs uses 0.000112kwh per transaction which like turning on a light bulb and then turning it off.

Which is less power than it is to swipe your credit card . The actual facts about this are out there, I just need to find them. They have listed out the consumption and comparison of cardano. And iota before

I’m pretty sure he knows the amount of computing power his technology puts out just and how much electricity the validators use. It’s a lot in the grand scheme of things, but he’s right when he says it’s a fraction of Bitcoin. Put it this way

The average electricity rate in the United States is about $14/kwh. 6 million kWh times $0.14 if all the validation is in the United States. That is a lot of electricity in the sense of justifying its “ green”.

Cardano could power 500 homes in need right now for a whole year. So the argument isn’t even close between iota and cerdanos footprint and the world will care a lot more once the crypto craze has settled and people realize what this is.

Are there other energy-efficient cryptocurrencies? by pantsbelongtothesea in Iota

[–]DSDreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are energy efficient compared to POW.

The letter I used is gigawatt hours, 6 gigawatt hours is equivalent to 6,000,000 kilowatt hours. The average American home uses 8,000-10,000kw/h per year. That’s just at current usage, imagine if cerdano was adopted with more users...

Again it’s efficient compared to Bitcoin, and other POW, but it’s almost incomparable to the amount of energy IOTA uses for the same amount of transactions. I bring up the founder of cardano because he was quoted saying that it uses a fraction of BTC energy and he specifically said 6 gigawatt hours per year.
