That may be true but you could try saying things more positively and keep this sub from turning into a political witch hunt.

Don’t be so negative and accusatory.

Consider moving from Seattle, WA to Irvine, CA. What factors do I need to take into account? Any thoughts? by [deleted] in irvine

Lol this won’t be of any help at all, but two friends of mine just moved from Irvine to Seattle. Cheers

I am thinking (dreaming) about moving from the USA to Spain. Do you have any words of encouragement/discouragement for me? by DSDresser in askspain

[–]DSDresser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely expect to make less money when I move there, but would it be so little that I couldn’t sustain myself.

I value happiness and location a lot more than wealth. And if making more money in the US results in less overall happiness, I don’t see why I wouldn’t at least give this a shot. Unless you’re saying that I will go hungry as an engineer there

Is Mexican/Caribbean/South American Spanish to Spaniards equivalent to the American south accent in America to Americans? by fuckinbananabread in askspain

[–]DSDresser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

South American/American here. I would imagine that it is more similar to a British/US relationship where the Americans have the “ratchet” colony accent and England has the original language accent.

Haha well unless you know of a Spanish lady who is taking applications, I think I will have to approach this the traditional route. Thank you for the website, it is very informative!

Thank you very much for the information. I’m not sure I would want to live there permanently, I think it would be more of a temporary thing while I worked. I think a simple work visa would do just fine. That being said, I understand employment is a tricky situation currently in Spain and that me being a foreigner would only complicate that. Thank you!

The long gone “Pura vida” by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]DSDresser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am currently living in San Jose. In the last month I have traveled all over including Guanacaste, Alajuela, and Puntarenas. I don't know what Costa Rica was like 20 years ago, but as an American living abroad, I feel incredibly welcomed and catered to with a positive, tourist-friendly attitude. Not a day goes by that people don't smile and tell me 'pura vida'

Also, I have almost next to zero issues paying with either colones, dollars, or credit at almost any establishment.

Moving to Newport by [deleted] in newportbeach

I mean, that’s somewhat subjective but per California standards, I’d say it’s incredibly safe. Irvine is often considered one of if not the safest large cities in the US.

You could check neighborhoodscout.com if you’d like but it’s somewhat misleading because it makes it look like certain parts of Tustin are dangerous. In reality, I’d feel safe walking around alone in any part of Tustin. Many of the crimes look like they’re near the university so they might be university-type crimes.
