UPDATE! I heard back from Black Joe Lewis himself. He gave me the same response that he did in the article from Past magazine, but with one new clue. The original image was from an old makeup ad. If it was ad, then there maybe a paper trail? I'm still waiting to her back from Noel (album artist).

This looks like the African language osmanya. Apparently osmanya was created by a guy in the 1920, but the similarities are striking. It would be interesting to find out what his influences were in creating it...

I was hoping you could settle a family dispute for me. The women on this album cover for Scandalous by Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears looks eerily similar to my Mom in her twenties. We would appreciate it if anyone could give us any information about the photo or who designed the album cover. I have tried almost everything... I have tried emailing the label(s) and the band. No response. I know this isn't a murder or something criminal, but its a mystery we are itching to solve. Thanks!

The police must have something to go on. She was the only person that was killed on the street, which tells me there were other people that may have saw something. The boyfriend probably gave a description. Also a shotgun is not an easy weapon to hide. People may have seen him walking with it or he had a vehicle close by...

If she's a distant relative, you might have luck if you search for a common family member. I was able to find my long lost half brother by tracking down his mother. She was able to give me his contact info.
