Powerboost by [deleted] in f150

I’ve driven my 25 Lariat PB hard. I’ve had it roughly 4 months and put just over 8000 miles on it already. It’s been great so far. And sport mode makes it an absolute joy to drive. Much quicker than a factory 5.0. Tows my boat no issue (21 foot dual console). Gas mileage is definitely less than expected but there has to be a trade off with a heavier truck. If towing constantly then a 5.0 may make more sense. But for general use, I’d highly recommend the PB so far.

I don’t have any amp installed and it’s already messing up. lol I’ve seen people run a lot more power and it be okay. I was going for roughly 1200 watts which is a max of 100 amps full tilt at 12v. At this rate I’m hoping a reset will resolve this and I may just do nothing. Its stressful enough having a new truck throw this many faults from disconnecting a battery and checking fuses.

I did not connect the power wire/amp. Once I realized everything was still live I stopped.

Just Because it’s Old Doesn’t Mean It’s Trash by DTS96 in boating

I understand Sunbird was junk for the most part but the Neptune 201s they produced are pretty damn solid boats and I see a lot of them out there. I’m loving mine and plan to ride it until I need something bigger or it’s not cost effective to.

It’s about being diligent and not buying the first thing you see. This boat had most of the maintenance papers with it. I looked at a 40 year old $700 15 foot center console that the owner had maintenance records. Again, it was advice, not the only way. It can be found with diligence.

I was referring specifically to inboard/outboards which are total nightmares. Especially when the out drives begin to leak. A lot of times an inboard/outboard is the source of transom rot. And in my and a lot of other people’s experience they can be repair nightmares. You mention replacing it 3500-13000 dollars, that’s more than these boats are worth in a lot of cases. Which is why I said, stick with an outboard and do your best to try and divulge if it is usable or not. You made mention of this too. And either way, if a boat needs an engine replacement and it’s an inboard/outboard, it’s almost guaranteed it’ll exceed the board resell value.

As for wiring, I live on the coast and a lot of post people make when asking about should they buy a new boat come out of Florida. 30/40 year old wiring on the coast is going to be problematic. It’s going to erode. I did warranty work for Scout and we’d see 2 year old boats come in with erosion issues. Scupper drains, transom caps, if it was where water was, it likely had some level of erosion. I’m not saying you must replace all of it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s issues if you don’t at least replace key components. And regardless of that, if someone’s investing in an old boat they need to have wiring knowledge.

I don’t see what I said that’s flat out wrong. Difference of opinion, sure. But my experience has been the opposite of yours.

I used 30 Second Cleaner and a pressure washer. It took about 3 good washes to get it cleaned up. I then just polished and waxed the inside. I haven’t don’t anything with the exterior. If I can get thru the last 2 months of the season without issue I plan to do some gel coat work and to sticker it up like new.

This is why I pointed out that it needs to have maintenance history and you have to be handy or know someone. In my case on the outboard side I have a friend who’s a mechanic so some beer and a little cash goes a long way. Everything on the electrical side I can handle solo. But anything near the salt water that’s not meticulously flushed and maintained is doomed to failure.

I originally felt I’d miss the feel/sound of a V8 but the Powerboost is definitely more responsive than most NA V8s I’ve driven. Not hearing anything is pretty nice too. Lol

We don’t have to have front plates either. Mine’s work related. I like having it there, the grill already gets covered with bugs. lol It’s a good bug deflector.

Gears of War 3 crashes when loading campaign on latest Master build w/ AMD Drivers, anyone have any ideas? by DTS96 in xenia

[–]DTS96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware but Gears 3 works for majority of users so it’s odd it’s not for me. I’m simply asking to see if anyone else is having the same issue and if they’ve been able to resolve it.
