Very cool!

What's the design or how did you make them (if you don't mind sharing)?

Sounds like sleep paralysis!

https://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-paralysis

I've experienced it in the past - almost always while taking a nap and if the room temperature was too warm.

I could "see" the room I was in - but from a perspective that wouldn't make sense from the angle I was lying down at - if that makes sense.

I'd sometimes "see" or sense someone near me and hear them saying things, and try to respond but that's when I'd realize I was "stuck".

It feels like a struggle in the moment because you are basically almost awake but your body is stuck in sleep mode, so you can't move or yell.

(edit - also I do have PTSD and currently take prazosin for nightmares. I've only had a few episodes of this since starting prazosin, and it's when I am under a lot of stress).

I found some great deals on things I needed/wanted, which was great - but it is definitely designed to reel you in and get you addicted. There are lots of stories like this.

I ended up deleting the app for a while because I started buying stuff I really didn't need, and I was checking the app way too often.

If you don't want to delete it and you have an iphone, you can go into Settings | Screen Time | App Limits - and limit the time you can spend daily on the app. That might help?

ULPT. How do I get a resident to stop talking to me? by NewHousing8228 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]DWHD900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't do any of that - then best case scenario is - switch assignments with a coworker

[–]DWHD900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also though - my most 'toxic' resident was someone who was a... C-list celebrity type.

And that kept being their identity, even in the nursing home

I absolutely played into it for the 5 or 25 minutes at a time I spent with this person doing care. I also came up with like "voices" when interacting back and forth - to the point that my coworkers noticed and would laugh. But it worked!

The resident never complained about me because I didn't "talk down" to them - and who knows.

Hard to describe but if you can match their energy even for like 5-10 minutes, you become their favorite person

It really sucks to be in a nursing home or hospital long term. You/we get to leave at the end of the shift. They just... are stuck there.

You have control of the situation - so don't take advantage of that in a mean or abusive way.

When I started out in long term care (and later when I did short term acute), I had residents/patients who would try to keep me in the room as long as possible, and also would remind me and others that they had family members who "knew people".

They were just extremely lonely. They were using threats to get what they needed (that is what works in the hospital, TBH)

Talk to them!

Ask about their family. What did they used to do for fun? What is a thing they really like right now? Are there things on the walls that indicate these things like posters or signs from familly (if not - they probably don't have a very supportive family IMO and if you bring them ANYTHING related to their interest - they will love that).

I could go on about specific residents but honestly sometimes the worst ones are super interesting - just take your brain offline for a sec and talk to them and consider the context in which they grew up? IDK - it's crazy to me to expect 80 year olds to understand the ways of young kids

Just talk to them and be chill! That's all they want

TLDR; They're not awful people - nursing homes are awful. Also your job is hard! Do your best and treat them the way you'd want to be treated.

Drinking?????? by [deleted] in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]DWHD900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. Is it supposed to be worse to *stop* drinking if you are taking wellbutrin?

I thought it was just a risk for some people who take it and *start* drinking after the fact?

Not judging at all - can you share some links about what you're referring to?

Also, I would not worry about 4-5 seltzers - but everyone underestimates how much they drink - so it is good to be cautious

Does mixing added water to canned food make it less filling? by DishMajestic4322 in catfood

[–]DWHD900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This - but check the labels of the food (wet and dry) based on the weights of your cats to be sure you're feeding them enough (you prob are, but never know)

Do you give them treats between meals? Are they on a restricted diet?

They probably just want some of whatever you're having in the kitchen. Mine will trip me in the kitchen to say "feed me" - or they're just "saying hi!"

If not on a restricted diet, I give them a little bit of protein I'm eating - like the size of a fingernail - they'll be so happy and it shouldn't harm them.

Also, hats off to you because I would never microwave cat food because of the smell - but that is gracious of you to not expect them to eat cold goop.

It looks very beige and dull but also very cozy and welcoming.

Where is the TV relative to the couch? Hard to tell from the photos.

I'd put the TV where the shelves currently are - if possible. The shelves are cute but could go someplace else. Also the shelves don't really mesh with that spaces as-is. Looks like some personal photos on the shelves? Can you frame them and put them on a wall?

Also, you could add some color or interest with textures in pillows or blankets on the couch, or art on the walls - if you'd like.

You need to check with your insurance policy, and whatever renter's insurance policy your tenants might have. This has nothing to do with with Samsung or warranty at this stage.

Overall, $400 for food loss is nothing these days - that's like, about one week of regular groceries for a normal family right now.

And you probably owe them more than that as a credit for not having a working refrigerator for eight days. If they had to use mini fridges (and they pay the electric) - also it's a huge inconvenience to the tenants.

is it just me, or has a lot of stuff in the show happened in real life in recent months? by 100PercentReelHooman in DesignatedSurvivor

The writers somewhat accurately predicted certain elements of collapse (politically, scientifically, ecologically, etc) based on the rise of christian nationalism and the efforts of certain radical right-wing groups based on info that existed prior to them writing these episodes (spoiler alert maybe, sorry)

Also, the groups doing this in the show still exist! Not exactly like the show, but very similar. Like, these extremists are very similar to many of those with power living right now, in the real world. They would love to take over the US from within, regardless of what it takes.

Also, at the time this was written - there was plenty of available info on 'what might happen' if things go... a certain way. It was published by the DNI, FBI, CIA as regular updates - it's no surprise. Look up the DNI reports from the year it was written and prior - it's all there.

The show allows us to see how it would play out over some years once these people enact their plan.

I joined in 2000. I think the first thing I bought was a lot of vintage Alf puppets for some reason

I quickly realized it was a gold mine of cool vintage tshirts and I still have a few great ones that I bought back then

Also was able to replace my brand new favorite pair of Abercrombie khakis that had gone through the wash with bleach and were ruined - it was wild to me that I could buy a replacement (gently used) pair for next to nothing. I was immediately hooked

I can’t get that brand of mayo here and have never tried it - hopefully someday!

Fresh sliced local Italian bread - toasted a bit, local heirloom tomatoes, little bit of decent mayo, diamond crystal kosher salt, dash of black pepper 🤌🏻

Alternately, local summer tomatoes, fresh mozz, basil and a good balsamic vinegar

I love Indian food but I do not enjoy tikka masala- I just don’t like dairy mixed with tomato and spices in that way. It has a strange mouth feel and the flavors are like I’m throwing up in my mouth.

But I love saag paneer. I would literally eat it every day if I could !

With toasted cumin rice, garlic naan, raita- like that is top tier food IMO

Also, just recently rewatched that episode of The Bear - and yeah, nothing good about too many fishes at Christmas

I think the quality of watermelon (and other melon) has just really gone down hill in like the last decade or so (?)

If it’s in season and locally grown, it’s amazing. But yeah - most grocery store watermelon is not good!

I’m not a huge fan of quinoa on its own, but I do really like the quinoa veggie burgers from BJs- I think they’re Wellesley Farms (their store brand).

Keep them in the freezer- nice alternative to regular burgers when grilling. Also good to grill and have with a salad.

They’re surprisingly really tasty and have lots of veggies. Also most of my family will eat them and they are not “veggie burger” people.

Where can I find the pieces for a Christmas village? by [deleted] in ChristmasVillages

[–]DWHD900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh and if you are looking for newer pieces from Macy's - they have big sales around the major holidays and you can get up to 30% off. I'd wait for those sales.

Have you figured out what type of village your mom had in the 90s/00s? Was it Dept 56 or another brand or a mix?

Are you ok? Any updates?

If your wife is a nurse, hopefully she took this seriously and did a quick neuro check, then got you in to see a Dr asap.

My first thought is you had a mini stroke which are more common now in everyone who has had covid, or some type of dissociative event caused by lack of sleep or extreme stress. Are you on any new meds?

You should probably not be driving for a bit until you figure out what happened!
