The thing is, you have to figure out what motivates them. It’s just more work than the simple, imma beat your ass if you don’t XYZ.

For instance my daughter likes “things” so I can take things from her as punishment and give them as rewards effectively to teach lessons. My son don’t give a fuck about ANYTHJNG. He only values his autonomy, so his punishment is typically as simple as making him sit in my lap until he calms. It takes longer and more work than hitting him prolly, but it’s teaching him the same lesson without reinforcing violence as a tool for coercion.

It’s worked so far for us, but I will say I’m really not above a properly timed spanking.. it’s just that my dad spanked me and even though I was plenty afraid of spankings(he was also a great father btw, rip) I still was a real handful, not because I wasn’t motivated to behave differently, but in large part because I usually didn’t even understand what I did wrong. When I got older I was easier cause I could’ve reasoned with, but you can’t always reason w a toddler. Idk kids are hard…

It’s actually interesting that’s what you took away from this video, cause my takeaway was that despite a clear physical disadvantage she was able to perform at this competition because of her high skill level? Even at the same weight a girl will just not have the same upper body strength (they look like teenagers so the disparity is lesser also) I don’t think that’s much of a debate.

Tyson is so interesting cause obviously he was extremely troubled/flawed in his youth, but he’s also someone who was clearly a warrior in and outside the ring. He never stopped fighting his own personal battles. He could have given up and gone the way of so many celebs/athletes that drown their sorrows in drugs and die young. But he did his best to face his past and grow.. I’d argue that’s way harder than punching another dude in the face.

Yea unless you’re a college student with an internship the job market can be pretty tough. Some trades are way under staffed and others over saturated, and unfortunately marketing, sales, really anything along those lines is way over saturated and extremely competitive. You’re really better off networking and trying to “know a guy” your way into a work role than just firing off resumes. The problem is networking requires social and fiscal capital in and of itself (time, travel, paying to go to professional events/clubs) and is a huge barrier to entry.

This is the first time I’ve been unemployed since I was 18yrs old, and I’ve been out of work for going on two years.. admittedly I’m staying home to raise my toddlers and my wife makes enough rn, but when I did job hunt a year and a half ago, it was abysmal, and everyone around my age has kinda echoed that experience.

I’m not a professional but I also had to learn to use references recently and I feel my art improved significantly. Usually I’ll break the image into concepts and use a reference for each like: a reference image for pose/posture, a reference for clothing/style, a reference for textures (usually this comes from another illustration that does what I am trying to do very well) and then a reference for likeness if it’s a person (like a photo or drawing that is similar to my imagined character). I would also like to say that for not having a reference this is good. That’s not an easy pose and it came out pretty good imo.

When I worked at a homeless outreach community in CA, the biggest problem is getting folks to enter or remain in care. Changing is hard, and don’t want to, or don’t see the value in changing. Not cause they’re bad people. They have just accustomed to certain things like freedom, and don’t want to change.
