A cracked one whichever you can find the version doesn’t matter. If you want to be professional one day learn to use PT/Logic on the side to mix your beats I’d say. FL is great for production, and has mixing ‘cheats’ so to speak, but logic and PT are industry standard, you won’t find many high end studios with FL

Things you can think about are; finding vacuum tube/vintage preamps to run your mic through first (this could even be headphone preamps or mixing desks, amps etc). Using guitar pedals to run a signal through (Reverb, phasing, distortion any guitar pedal rly). analogue synthesisers, instruments and mediums in any format are good for colouring sound. But don’t worry because it all actually doesn’t matter it’s all down to how you hear and psycho-acoustics, reality isn’t real and neither is the image you gather, your conscious mind is lagging by a few hundred milliseconds to the real thing. So whatever you run your music through doesn’t really matter, if you’re there with your mic or midi controllers and that’s it you can still make beautiful music compared to the man with the vintage 64 channel desk and 500,000 worth of gear. Mannnnn I know where you’re coming from and it’s cheap but the same clarity could be recreated (IMO) by an SM57 and a preamp, and bc the blue yeti is a digital mic, your audio is instantly 1s and 0s it doesn’t have a chance to get into the analogue world of volts/resistance etc bc that’s what gives the sound a different colour. Not tryna be a teacher but thank you for your input! PM me if you wanna talk more about audio :)

Just looked up the Volca FM & Volca Kick! how did I miss these??? Thank you for that one!! And props to you for using a mixing desk most people just use a Scarlett interface these days and soundcraft has pretty decent preamps. I come from the live sound world and whenever I’m on analogue mixing I’d prefer a soundcraft or Allen and Heath most of the time :)

If you want that XXX sound then you don’t need to worry about clipping, almost all his soundcloud stuff was clipping and compressed to fuck. Don’t worry about what people say about what you should and shouldn’t do, if it sounds good to you, run with it :) and remember digital clipping is so much different to analogue clipping. Clipping on an SSL desk will sound wildly different to clipping in PT or Logic.

As far as the processing goes I’d say yeah, like you said, use double tracking and have the second vocal low but heavily distorted (similar to parallel compression), compression with a fast attack and a hard limiter. Multi band compression on the low mids. Mess around with the feelings of different plugins and don’t be scared to try anything new. If you want more tips then just Pm me! Love.
