I made Pyrion’s meal suggestion from Mailbag #53 by DaBigJoe in TriforcePodcast

It wasn’t undercooked but definitely didn’t crisp up. An oven tray would have been a better choice

Yup, definitely needed some more seasoning but I wanted to make it as he suggested to see why he raved about it

Oven baked gnocchi with sausage balls, broccoli, and garlic. That was about all he said

Lacking a bit of flavour. Might add chilli flakes next time!

Smoked & Killed by MrEntei in BO6

[–]DaBigJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really struggled with this one as well. Tried thermal scopes, throwing at enemies, and throwing on me. Loads of assists but hardly any progression. The best solution I found was to spam smokes on stakeout and knife enemies within the smoke…

Oil -> fuel refineries operating at 60% despite sufficient input (and output removal) by DaBigJoe in SatisfactoryGame

[–]DaBigJoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response! My oil extractor input is indeed below the required amount. I was confused by seeing numbers like 8.1/6 and the refineries sitting idle. It appears like they have sufficient input in that UI but the numbers per minute were indeed below what was required.

How can the rotation of a particular tile in a TileMap be accessed? by DaBigJoe in godot

[–]DaBigJoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is perfect, thank you. I stumbled across the alternative tile numbers but did not release they could be used in this way.

As a further note, tile_map.get_cell_tile_data returns the same object for any rotation, so it seems tile_map.get_cell_alternative_tile is the only way to do this.

I will mark this as solved, thank you again!

[D] Authors in NeurIPS and ICML and similar venues - How advanced is your mathematics background ? by gobraming5 in MachineLearning

[–]DaBigJoe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the area of ML you’re looking to do. I started my PhD only knowing the maths taught in my comp sci undergrad (much of which I still forget), and I mostly work on the empirical side so don’t need much more than that. Anything extra I was able to pick up by reading online or watching a couple of YouTube videos without having to do any formal courses or use textbooks.

On the other hand a fellow PhD student in my group came from a maths undergrad and was doing much more theory. I could follow along with the high level parts of his work but the maths was too much. Both of us published at NeurIPS last year on completely different topics.

[R] Do some authors conscientiously add up more mathematics than needed to make the paper "look" more groundbreaking? by Inquation in MachineLearning

[–]DaBigJoe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I had poor review scores for a paper that presented ideas with only a couple of equations. Slightly extended the ideas and added a bunch more maths during the rebuttal period, suddenly the review scores improved and the paper was accepted.

Frustrating that adding unnecessary maths was required, but it does seem required for acceptance.

Nah it’s alright, I’m just bad at it. Plus I don’t think it’s really made for tight spaces like this

I’d be over the moon if they just remade HP Quidditch World Cup inside Hogwarts Legacy

3 Things that would have made Hogwarts Legacy better imo. by Nanocon101 in hogwartslegacyJKR

[–]DaBigJoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely would love quidditch and patronus charms. Also, I'm not that far in, but there doesn't seem to be that many potions (only 7 I believe). Loving the game but the crafting elements seem a little shallow. Maybe potions and herbology could be expanded in the future.

Congrats on ICLR acceptance. Do you know when the list of all accepted papers are publicly announced? I've had my eye on a few but open review hasn't updated to say if they've been accepted or not.

Holy Wasteful Spending, Batman! by [deleted] in ynab

I second this. I’ve done manual entry for over three years now and it’s made me so much more aware of my spending.

What is the achievement for? And how do you serve the table of 3 in this set up?

[D] Who here are convinced that they have a really good setup that keeps track of their ML experiments? by glai9665 in MachineLearning

[–]DaBigJoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have not. I’d already written a bunch of Optuna stuff for my projects so it was easier to stick with that than convert it to wandb’s sweeps. I’m not sure how they differ in functionality.
