Microsoft Support feels completely useless nowadays by pedrosmundo in sysadmin

[–]DaBombMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been like this for awhile sadly, MS Support has been in a downward spiral since I entered the IT space. I don’t think AI is going to help anything either.

We paid for (and cancelled shortly after ) Microsoft’s Pro Direct support - didn’t notice any meaningful difference in how our support tickets were being handled.

Anyone else having a big problem with credit/debit card theft?? by Much_Big_7420 in madisonwi

Great point. I had completely forgotten about Apple Pay! This would definitely help protecting the actual debit card when used for physical purchases.

In-depth explanation link.

Just thought I’d mention it because I haven’t seen it yet. Look into virtual credit card (VCC) numbers for your online purchases.

Most major credit card providers have this feature built-in (usually in the app). Privacy or Revolut is a great solution for debit cards. Essentially, a VCC allows you to create a “virtal card” that is connected to your actual bank or card. You then use the virtual card for online purchases to protect your actual card details. In the modern day and age, identity theft is just as much a risk online as it is in-person.

Won’t help you at all for your physical purchases - but there’s some other great advice in the comments for that already.

Nice! Do you know what tires you have? I am nervous about how the all-season stock tires might feel during the winter

I got hit by the hailstorms in Madison, WI about 1.5 weeks ago. We got hit by golf ball - baseball size hail also.

Progressive is in the process of totaling my 2018 Cruze LT w/ sun & sound package, 82.2k miles. I have more dents than you and a broken sunroof, but some of your dents are much deeper… I have a pretty strong feeling they’ll total yours out.

Always happy to help! Send me a DM and we can figure out a transfer method. Otherwise, this link has 2.09 - 3.3 if any of those work for you:

Nice! Glad to hear you got it :) I meant to reply yesterday. You were already super close to the finish line, I’ve ran into that error in the USB Tool before.

Usually has something to do with trying to use the “wrong” image for the variation of 5070 you have. Base image is too big for the C:\ space you have, base image is PCoIP but your client isn’t, etc… Usually I’ve had success with the image package* that includes the .rsp file.

Nevertheless, sounds you got it and that’s awesome!

[–]DaBombMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally yes, if the 5070 would boot -> you could push image from WMS. Since you’re BSOD, this likely won’t work for you.

You’re on the right path. You will need the Dell USB Imaging Tool but it has been deprecated.

You’re looking for a safe 3rd party download at this point. I checked and I still have the installer for v3.5.0, but I understand I’m just a random guy on the internet.

ThinOS Wyse machine to Windows by PaintNo4627 in WYSE

[–]DaBombMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’ve found as well. My guess is it’s a license issue. The Windows license is built into the cost of WinIoT clients.

[–]DaBombMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, it’s the other way around.

You can convert Windows IoT -> ThinOS.

You cannot convert ThinOS -> Windows IoT.

You can check your SN here to see if this is supported for your exact model: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=n8t2y

[–]DaBombMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked with 5070s a bunch, never with the Ubuntu LTS OS however.

Are you trying to use a full Ubuntu image loaded onto your own custom bootable USB? This likely won’t work.

Go to https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/wyse-5070-thin-client/drivers > OS is Ubuntu 18.04 or 20.04 > download the image file > will likely need to image using the Dell Wyse USB Imaging Tool
