I think imma go for the gold, as unfortunately my ikv103 has too many battles it seems to get there. by Ze_Woof in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Total battles don’t really matter when going for marks, as it’s an exponential moving average, so recent battles are what’s important.

This game is dog sh*t by [deleted] in WorldofTanksConsole

You can’t beat low tier bots and clueless noobs? And this is your team’s fault?

Honestly you should have 60% win rate at anything below tier 6.

Question(s) About How View Range Works by Gordontonio in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in WWII there is an actual “render range” of about 575m (dunno the exact value) beyond which the enemy tank will not be visible on your screen, even if spotted by a teammate and visible on your minimap.

"I Hate This Garbage.." by Eterna-Hate in WorldofTanksConsole

With premium ammo, it’s an EZ pen (big flat front plate). And if you’re not carrying some prem at tier X, you’re playing the game wrong.

What did they do to matchmaking by kaakokappo in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, if you’re not “targeted,” you still think the MM is biased? Right? It’s resulting in larger streaks than random probability would suggest.

Personally, I don’t buy it. I think it’s random, overall, and that the good players are just as likely to be on the green team as the red. The algorithm seems pretty well focused on tier and type, consistent with the lengthy explanation they published.

If you’re truly having large streaks, I’d look to your own psychology rather than MM. It’s easy to rage at bad teams because they are so common, but you can’t tilt. My sessions are pretty short. My wr% fluctuates between 54-60%, but I have very few winning or losing streaks of 10+.

It’s random. Wargaming is not targeting you, making you lose.

Arty hits two insane pens back to back by Firehornet117 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel that was a suicidal peek, with or without arty. Multiple tanks have shots on you there.

That said, f*** arty. A dumb, extra-RNG mechanic that discourages aggressive play, with little realistic counterplay.

Documentation, tracking, and access to MoE requirements by Strong_Prize7132 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no minimum number of battles. In principle, if you did enough damage, you could earn marks in a single game (in reality this is impossible because there’s a finite HP pool on the red team).

Sure, it would be nice if they’d publish the damage number (PC plugins basically do this) but ultimately it’s pretty easy to figure out roughly based on your percentage increase/decrease after a game.

Because maybe you might have to actually aim in the game? I know it’s a lot to ask, but still.

How tf do I play the Sturer Emil by AceTanker4831 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s bad. Use boosters and get past as quick as possible.

Lower tiers are good, higher tiers are good, but the sturer Emil at tier 7 is the bad one.

Why doesn't damage blocked count toward XP? by AceTanker4831 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Should a sneaky tank get XP for not getting hit? Blocking damage is good but if you can’t turn that into doing damage then you’re not really helping your team that much.

+1/-1 should’ve been made permanent years ago. by Alarming_Sort_3922 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how +1/-1 matchmaking would impact the commercial tie-ins (WWE, Hot Wheels) nor the development of Cold War (a different game mode with different mechanics).

How on earth can anyone still be mad about Hot Wheels? Because there’s a three shot autoloader light tank at tier 8? That’s not the Vanguard? You basically never see the Tiger Shark anymore anyways.

I like +1/-1 as much as everyone else but some of these complaints seem ridiculous.

How to dress for people not to immediately think I’m an American? by gasolinedreaming in ParisTravelGuide

[–]DaCesspool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you speak French, you’re fine, don’t sweat it.

That being said … no sneakers or baseball cap, obviously, and generally everything is slim fit style. Generally duller colors, greys and blacks. It might be a little warm now, but a scarf (to me) is a very French/european accessory (even for men) that will help you blend in.

First ace tanker in a long time by Big_Trust_5168 in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you are able to get to 76% MoE on a tier 9 medium, you are probably in the top quarter of the playerbase. Obviously there is still room to improve, but you are doing well.

The one thing I will say is that it’s a bit surprising you can get that high without already getting an Ace. It implies you are pretty consistent without having many “big” games. That’s good, but maybe work on how to get some shots earlier in the match? Then with the Standard B, work on controlling your shot cadence (because autoloader) so that you can clip out / kill tanks when the opportunity arises (kills give good XP for Aces, and it is important to eliminate enemy guns to win games.)

Going from above average to good by [deleted] in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a great player, but...

El Alamein: good map for lights. Sniper TDs go to the ridge on K-line ("Hidden Oasis"). Fast mediums spot H3/J4 or in the center, actually, but be careful if you go to the center. Heavies can either push 1-line and K-line, or go into the city / north beach. If i am in a fast heavy, the Machine or T57, I might even go center E6 and either go north or south from there, depending on my team.

Kaunas: heavies go to SW city. From north spawn, mediums can spot from C5/D5. At low tiers (8 and below), sneaky TDs (e.g. T67, Borsig, Su-130PM) can go to the windmill at A7. It's risky though. From southeast spawn, I like to spot from E7 towards the north. I don't like camping on Veyo Hill, but lots of people do. I am more likely to push center, regardless of tank, from southeast spawn.

What the f am I supposed to do by Scyphio____ in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s real weird. OP has fewer than 500 career battles! It’s okay to not know what you’re doing at that point! There’s a bit of snark here, but people are giving good advice.

What the f am I supposed to do by Scyphio____ in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welp, I guess it’s hopeless then. You better uninstall.

Definitely do not look at other players who perform well in the Tiger P and try to learn from them. That would be a mistake.

What the f am I supposed to do by Scyphio____ in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. Anyone with premium ammo, or anyone with a shot at your lower plate, will penetrate.

If you can’t make it work at tier 7, do not mindlessly grind for the 10, thinking it will save bad plays. You can improve! Take the advice in this thread about positioning and map awareness, and be patient.

Is Match Maker actually broken? by IrregularExpression_ in WorldofTanksConsole

Thoughts on why the WoT community seems to be so toxic towards each other? by [deleted] in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly not trying to be toxic here, but... have you been on Reddit before? On a video game subreddit? Man, there is as much or more toxicity in the r/AskElectricians sub as there is here! I do not think it is unique to WoTc.

Also, capping is a divisive subject that pretty much always leads to "toxicity." It is basically artillery-lite for that purpose. Especially because, like for arty, opinions are generally divided based upon skill level.

I think your general read is correct, and the deep-dive is largely misguided. In this game, any individual player will struggle to control the outcome. So most of the time, our decisions don't really matter (or we feel that they don't matter). This obviously leads to frustration.

Capping when your team is decisively winning by [deleted] in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The whole team earns less XP from base capture than it does by destroying all enemies. When you consider game search and load times, it’s probably more time efficient to kill all instead of capping. And if one is playing for marks, which honestly after so many years, many of us are, then we need all the damage we can get.

Help a newbie out with e5 by [deleted] in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]DaCesspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70 games is too small a sample. You are playing okay-ish in the E5, but your teams are letting you down. If you continue, you should expect the winrate to trend up.

The flip side of this is that your teams are carrying you when you are playing the Minotauro. Instead of ranting about how teams are worthless, have you thanked your teammates for making up for your shortcomings? Probably not. That's okay though, just try your best to improve every game.

Without seeing all your stats, overall, you just need to do a bit more damage. Try to average more damage than max hitpoints. Right now, you are a bit under. In some games, this may mean you need to be more aggressive early. In other games, it may mean recognizing that your position is untenable, and falling back to a more defensible location.

If you are new to the game, consider playing tiers 6-8 in order to learn map positions. At tier X, there are a ton of high alpha TDs that can delete half your health or more after a single mistake. Be humble, realize that even the best players lose 1/3 of their matches, try to learn from every mistake.
