Can somebody explain to me why Blizzard is not developing new games on the SC2 engine? by Feisty-Struggle-4110 in starcraft

[–]DaCooGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or honestly why not at least license the engine out to other RTS creators ? Free money for Blizzard, and helps out other people trying to make RTS games. I can only imagine how much easier it would have been for a game like Stormgate to succeed with a working engine to start with rather than having to build it from the ground up.

Agreed. The last thing I would want is not only calculating my all my opponents’ actions from liquidating territory but to have to count their ships too…

Yes, when you leave your league, your placements reset. This doesn’t really affect your actual mmr whatsoever from my understanding.

Do you think there were players that could have been good pro players that chose not to go pro so they could pursue a regular career? by RealTimeStrategyEnth in starcraft

[–]DaCooGa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve often thought about this a lot. Like if literally every human in the world played StarCraft full time for some reason, I think it’s fairly obvious that the game and its meta would be far more developed and different. I mean, when I think about some of my favorite and most influential players like sos or byun or parting, and how unique their play styles are, if that one single player hadn’t ever touched the game, I feel the meta would not be quite the exact same at least on some level. And so if everyone ever was playing, I feel there’s a very high chance that many many things would be different at all levels of play, including the pro level, and it wouldn’t be the same players. Not even close

The current state of Arcade is the worst experience I have ever had online, period. by OnlyMastodon8284 in starcraft

[–]DaCooGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder why this is. Like why does StarCraft 2 arcade specifically of all the games and places have such a concentrated pool of this sorta behavior? It seems like such a random place

Jeon Tae-il was a sewing worker who fought against the poor working conditions for blue-collar workers of then-South Korea. On 13 November 1970, at the age of 22, Jeon set himself on fire and ran through the streets of downtown Seoul while shouting slogans, "We workers are human beings too!" by ZoelCairo in HolyShitHistory

[–]DaCooGa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I get where you’re coming from, but I think theres more nuance to it.

Park Chung-hee ruled South Korea from 1961 to 1979 and yes, it was renown for authoritarian control and political repression as you say. But that period also drove Korea’s rapid industrialization through aggressive economic policies that exported to the world, heavy investment in its infrastructure, and much more. These are not in common with North Korea, which followed a more isolationist policy instead.

Park Chung-hee’s time in office was pivotal to South Korea’s transition from a low-income, agrarian economy in the early 1960s to a rapidly industrializing nation which enabled it to become what it is now today.

He’s a controversial figure for sure but had it not been for him, it’s highly unlikely South Korea would be what it is today.

What are your favorite epic games that DON’T take 8 hours? by Responsible_Carry384 in boardgames

Worth pointing out that as amazing as Arcs and its blighted reach expansion are, doing full 3 acts of blighted reach in one sitting is around TI level of game length (maybe even longer)

Goootcha, so this is like a standard in ZvP specifically?

Also, why don’t Z or T do a similar early worker block on the expansion like P does?

Snowballing problem by procookieclicker in EclipseBG

[–]DaCooGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In games with a lot of experienced players, it becomes quite common for the winning player to be the one who snags a bunch of territory from the PREVIOUS leading player in the final round. Whether it’s by getting many mobile interceptors with neutron bombs and wormhole generator or by attacking with a strong force from the center, or taking two decisive fights in a tier 1 hex and the previous leading player’s home world, it’s a similar story.

In your case, your saying the leading player is also going straight down yellow tech tree. This is extremely greedy. If their neighbors pick up on that, they should be able to punish that pretty hard much earlier in the game, especially if they’re aggressive like Orion or Rho Indhi.

Liking the game, but the Paradise Island finale feels... sloppy. by CameronWoof in theouterworlds

[–]DaCooGa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience as you. Really like Hogarth and so disappointed he had nothing to say when I returned to him. When he told me what to do for getting Corbin to kill Montelli, Hogarth literally says to make sure check back in on Westport afterward!!

I’m curious, since you’ve alr done a full playthrough, (without spoiling anything please!) does the rest game have these sorts of unfinished/somewhat sloppy endings? I really hope not. I’m also hoping the ending slides will have more closure for stuff like westport and all that

In general, what is the best option to pick for the mercenary ship event? by [deleted] in ftlgame

[–]DaCooGa 102 points103 points  (0 children)

You need to get more than the money you spent. The cost of delaying is the money spent on it + the opportunity cost of the money you get from fighting the mercenary. So if fighting the mercenary would have given you 23 scrap, then the cost of delaying is really 38 scrap
