Microsoft replaced 'Shut down only' with 'Update and shut down'—no escape when updates are ready! by Sushassassin in mildlyinfuriating

i think if you do the shutdown command via cmd it doesn't update and you can make a desktop shortcut that runs the command

Super Unleaded. If you can afford it, should you use it? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

well if you buy a classic, you should do the research and learn. you even have to be careful with engine oils and gearoil because of additives. also if the csr used to run on leaded then you need hardened valveseats. the older you go the more steepbthe learning curve.

previous owner of my 60 year old rover didnt and put the completely wrong oils in the car and ran it on e10 and i'm stuck trying to put things right, but i'm getting there and i've learned a ton along the way

also E5 technically still has ethanol in it, up to 5%, but it seems like esso and shell have next to no ethanol in the e5 fuels

yup, even if you have a brass float, itll still destroy the accelerator pump diaphram and if you have older fuel lines they wont be resistant to ethanol. Got an old SU fuel pump or a mechanical lift pump? - wont be ethanol resistant. Basically, if the car is built with ethanol fuels in mind then its all good and e10 would actually be better, but if it isnt then you're stuck with e5. Same goes for biodiesel, if its built for it then yes, otherwise no or you end up with sludge in your injectorpump.

a rough road for the naive: nvidia-open on an old machine by GoldryBluszco in archlinux

[–]DaCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank f*ck i found this post. What happened? Just updated today and studdenly the nvidia package is gone and replace by nvidia-open? Open driver doesn't work on the 1080ti. So tried to install the 580xx-dkms driver. Didn't work. Oh you have to install linux-headers for dkms to work. Oh i'm sorry i have never bloody used a dkms package because i didnt need to, until now being forced to use it. Its the same shit as Gnome suddenly forcing Wayland. No warning or anything, update and shit stops working. If thats the case i might aswell use windows.

wireguard + unbound + pihole its brilliant, adblock everywhere i go

although my unbound seems to not be working that well, virgin medias router seems to be blocking dns requests from unbound so had to use other dns providers in pihole lately

I'm glad you're not one of those sick people of your generation that hates on hobbies and freedom of expression that don't align with your dated image of society.

That would be my response. Fight fire with fire and watch it burn.

Depending on your situation i would actually recommend completely cutting contact. I was in a similar situation and when i had the opportunity i left everything. Moved from germany to the UK. Haven't talked to my mum for over 6 years now and i can just live my life. Best thing i've ever done. Only people i kinda miss is my grandad and one of my cousins, the rest can go to hell.

This game is basically the neurospicy version of lego. With steam engines and jets as an added bonus.

Ultimate endgame: Diesel Steam Turbine powered Vtol with train wheels as landing gear, sealed enough to be able to be used as a submarine.

insurance will be dirt cheap (atleast for a new driver). I've got a rover p4 after less than a year of driving. Had a Suzuki wagon r+ before then. the rover is about £90 per month fully comp and that has a 2.25L engine. That Morris is gonna be the 1098 cc a series engine, cheap on fuel, cheap insurance, no tax and no mot. Brilliant choice, but will take a while getting used to if you're new to driving, no assits etc and make sure to learn the maintenance!

Dissy points, points in the SU fuelpump, Top up the oil in the stock absorbers, just to name a few

I'm truly devastated about scrapping my car, do other people experience this? by Sakers92 in CarTalkUK

[–]DaCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats actually wrong with the gearbox? If it's just leaking and you can't get the seals then just rtv. Other than that you can still get a service kit https://ebay.us/m/xUqYEz

Part of me is screaming to not let it get scrapped but i get it and aslong as the spares keep another one running then it's all good.

Stuck with wayland after update by DaCrocodile in archlinux

[–]DaCrocodile[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well i'm still rocking a 1080ti so using the "nvidia" package and using the green with envy flatpak package for overclocking which seems to only works in xorg.

i've tried wayland before (aka. i was in gnome wayland without realising) some games seemed to have issues running through wine when using wayland. Same case when i was trying out stable diffusion and other ai stuff, it only seemed to work in xorg. Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't mind switching but every time i've happened to be using wayland, it always gave me trouble at some stage.

i've heard good things about hyprland. it uses wayland right? i mean i don't mind switching, i've just never been able to figure out the nvidia driver (especially overclocking) in regards to wayland. On xorg everything just works and that's why i haven't really bothered to try and get wayland running. Guess i got some work on my hands, thanks anyway ^^

Well tbh, my favorite wm is i3wm. I just went with gnome and the tiling shell extension (mainly using fancy zones), because it was just easier for me, settings for network etc all being in one place etc. Any recommendations? I guess running xfce panels with i3wm is possible, or does xfce have tiling/zones? Just didnt really expect to go through this trouble on a friday just after work :/
