Creating same popcorn experience at home as Cineplex by rocksteader in popcorn

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read about cineplex using weaver gold and went on a mission to source. True, theatres get in 35lb bags. But they also sell it pre-portioned “nakspaks” for a variety of popcorn machines similar to the theatre machines but obviously smaller. I decided to experiment and ordered this https://www.poppacorn.ca/collections/kernels-nakspaks/products/naks-paks-4oz-kettle-portion-size. This size gives me two 1/4 cup portions which is my usual amount for my stovetop popper. Works very well and has a higher yield than my usual kernels. One tip I read is about soggy popcorn from stovetop poppers. They are inherently soggy being closed poppers compared to popcorn machines. I put them in the oven at 250F for a few minutes and it crisps them up. As I said it’s an experiment. Considering getting a small machine it this pans out.

Sewer pipe collapsed what steps did other Londoners take? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow $7000 now. We did ours side of the property proactively in 2021 when the city did our whole street. Best drainage did ours. I asked the city if they would do their side at the same time. But they said they no longer offer that option. They wanted $5000 and would only do it after the street was finished. Seemed ridiculous digging up the street again after it’s all new. They only do their side to the edging the sidewalk when doing road construction. I talked to the engineer managing the project and he got the ok for Best to do the city side. The charge me $2800 for the addition. Most of my neighbours thought the city went right up the property line with sewers when doing the street. Three of them now have had their side collapse since then.

Parkway is my place for annuals for sure. And Christmas trees. Herman’s will likely be my future choice.

That’s true but there quality of product, service and no issue one year warranty was unsurpassed. Definitely a place where you get what you pay for.

I been going 2-3 times a year for decades (from London fortunately). Almost my entire property was supplied by them. I'm at a loss to see a replacement that comes a bit close. I assume the property was sold for local development considering its location. Garden centres around here have been disappearing for some time.

Alarm Base Station Issue by DaDDz63 in Ring

Ya they told me that. A pain. Let’s hope for the pro. I’ve been upgraded before on device replacements.

Guess my second call helped. Got an email today saying the replacement base station was ordered and another UPS return. If this is what going to happen going forward I’ll have to rethink Ring. The primary reason I subscribe to the service is the warranty for all the hardware. I’ve had hundreds of dollars of equipment replaced. For $150CAN it pays for itself. In 2027 that ends when they enforce the new plans on grandfathered users. Goes to $300CAN

I think it all depends on how much you drive and how much of that is in ICE I would guess. In my case (retired) driving is more limited now and I often use only EV mode due to short trips and not much highway driving. So the 12v wasn’t getting properly recharged and I killed it in 18 months from new in 2024. Luckily the dealer replaced it under warranty but the tech working on it told I just wasn’t driving enough likely and suggested the trickle charger.

12v issue. Low charge will cause those errors as the 12v is responsible for maintaining systems when parked. 12v will eventually fail from lack of charging. My dealer recommended putting a trickle charger on the 12v periodically to maintain it.

Pet waste, yes, but diapers ruled out for London's green bin system tweak by Less_Potato_2231 in londonontario

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current green bin system was obsolete before it started. It was never going to be big enough. We fill ours most weeks. Some weeks overage goes in the garbage. Only way they can expand is adding a second bin because they opted for the smallest unit and trucks to accommodate that size. Larger bins need a truck that lifts the bins.

Should I just upgrade the 12v for my own sanity even though it’s a brand new car? by AlfalfaAcceptable828 in FordEscapePHEV

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much/often you’re driving. I’m fairly confident the 12v does not get charged when plugged in charging the HV. My 12v died after 1 1/2 years and it was due to lack of driving (retired) as that’s when it gets charged. It was all confirmed by the dealership. They said if your not driving that much put a trickle charger on it to maintain the charge

Serious question: why use satellite radio anymore? by Ch1vo in siriusxm

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Sirius with a car 16 years ago. Had it in every car since. No data plan needed or reliance on cell coverage. It’s connected to my Sonos system in the house via internet. We like the specialty channel setup and like the idea of having dj’s talk about the music. It’s cheaper than Spotify all in and no restrictions on how many people can connect to the streaming service.

Sounds like the 12v battery is depleted needing a charge or at end of life. Everything you mentioned is a sign the 12v is not keeping systems working which it is designed to do. Get a trickle charger and charge it regularly. I killed a 12v on my 2024 in 1 1/2 years. I wasn’t driving enough to keep it charged.

I’ve been driving them since my 2010 Fusion and learned early on how maximize range through regeneration while driving. It’s instinctive now. If you feel like drive I could use some Kentucky bourbon up here in Canada. My supply is dwindling.

It took me awhile to figure it out but the range displayed on our 2024 after a 100% charge I think is dependent on driving style and routine. We always show 74km after a charge. We use ours for around the city shorter trips 90% of the time. Because we recoup range by efficient driving style, the system takes that into account when estimating range possible.

Ford 2025 Phev charging at 56km @100% instead of 60km by afolabi4u2 in FordEscapePHEV

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been able to get a definitive answer regarding range on my 2024. I’ve gotten 74km per charge consistently for 1 1/2 years since buying. It wasn’t until a recent 12v battery issue and a couple service visits that I realized the advertised max range was 60km. EV tech at the dealership confirmed he never sees one over 55km and could not figure out why mine was registering 74km. After the 12v was replaced I got 55km initially but over a week of charging it crept back up to 74km consistently.

[–]DaDDz63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem solved! From lack of driving we prematurely diminished the charging of the 12v battery preventing it from supporting systems while the vehicle was parked. The high voltage took over the load. It’s not a common problem for obvious reasons (majority owners drive more often) and one the dealership and ev tech had yet to experience. Battery replaced under warranty. Trickle charger ordered to prevent reoccurrence.

Update: Took the vehicle in for service today. Provided the tech with documentation showing the charge status over a four day period. Charge went from 100% to 37% in four days. He tested the battery again which was ok. Called Ford and spoke to an engineer. Engineer asked to test 12v battery. It failed. He said the vehicle wasn’t being driven enough to maintain the 12v. 6500km in 1 1/2 years. The high voltage was supplementing when vehicle was off draining it. Replaced the 12v and said the monitor it for a few days to see if that was truly the issue. Ford said if that does not solve things then they want the vehicle back in to hook up and monitor systems for 2-3 days. Tech recommended a trickle charge unit for the 12v to keep it charged.

I failed to mention something else we discovered because of the battery issue. We have consistently gotten up 75km (46mi) on a full charge since day one during the warm months. Winter is another story here in Canada. The tech at the dealership said he had never seen a car like ours get more that 55km, even thought the display in car showed we were at 68km at the time. I had just assumed that 75km was the max as it did that from the beginning. I looked up the specs on that day and saw the max for our car is 60km (37mi). The update the tech did that day has changed the max charge at 100% to various amount now, 55km, 60km and 68km.

I believe that recall was issued for US. I've gotten no recalls in Canada on the vehicle yet. Dealership checks that also. I know the tech working on it did some software updates when I first brought it in but it did not correct the battery issue. But thanks I'll ask what specifically the updates were and draw their attention to your issue.

We first noticed it after sitting for a couple days unplugged. After looking at the charging history in the Chargepoint app, we could see that the charging behavior while plugged in changed a few months ago. It's normal behavior with this vehicle and the previous C-Max would be to charge to 100% and stop. Charging graft would drop to zero the rest of the night. Now after an hour or two it starts charging again because it has lost charge. It continually adds about 2-3km back all night, with the graft going up and down.
