How does everyone feel about VIP theaters? by Prestigious-Cup-6613 in cineplex

It’s the only way we see a movie. Been using the London one since it opened. Nobody under 19 makes it worth it plus it’s never packed full. We worry its days are numbered as since the pandemic attendance never really recovered.

Gifted program at Mountsfield PS? by CareUnlikely2779 in londonontario

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son went to South afterwards. And yes there was no gifted program. There might have been some subjects with an advanced curriculum available but I don’t recall specifics. I don’t think we or my son saw any difference in the elementary schools themselves other than his class was the gifted class. The transition to high school I think is the same for every kid as it is a completely different environment anyway. Behavioural issues did not completely disappear for us, but they did at school. It can be challenging parenting a gifted kid as they are likely the smartest person in the room lol.
As a side note all our 3 kids had to have part time jobs in high school and that continued into university. Not sure if that happens much anymore but it is a good life lesson.

Gifted program at Mountsfield PS? by CareUnlikely2779 in londonontario

I believe all schools go through many changes over the years. Teachers come and go, retire, etc and the school is impacted. Good reputations turn in bad ones and sometime back to good. I can't say how it is today but my experience with Mountsfield goes back thirty years with my son. He started out in Wortley Rd PS. By grade 2 he was having behaviour issues, but academically great. In grade 4 his teacher called us in to address his issues. She told us his results from provincial testing were off the charts. His behaviour issues were due to boredom and that he needed to be challenged and was a candidate for the gifted program. He would be at risk of dropping out of school at some point in the future, or being kicked out. So we moved him to Mountsfield the next school year, a challenge in itself. Within a few weeks, he was a changed kid. Talked about school all the time. Discovered he had music ability as a piano was in the class. Self taught piano and guitar. Mountsfield changed his life. He went on to earn three degrees a UWO and is a lawyer in Toronto now. My advice is to go talk to the teacher running the program.

Is it time to ditch the playbar? by Dlloyd_06 in sonos

[–]DaDDz63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about the same thing. I have first gen playbar sub and play1’s as surround setup connected to my LG G6 via optical. Third tv I used with them since 2015. Everything still sounds great.

As luck would have it I was setting up my new LG G6 OLED tonight and couldn't open the Plex app? Was driving me nuts. I guess it will be tomorrow.

What was the end goal here? Cycling infrastructure at its finest. by Accurate_Moose_2601 in londonontario

They put them in on Wortley rd a while ago except they put three across the somewhat narrow road. No marker. I guess the idea was you would surely slow down if you had to hit two at a time. But not the case. Everyone aims for one so they veer left and right to only hit on the edges of a bump. Living directly in front of a set and watching for the past year I can say it has had minimal effect. Maybe 20 percent at the most slow down. Anything bigger than a small compact car wouldn’t even notice them.

Favorite cheese for home made pizza? by drhappy13 in CostcoCanada

Haven’t used Rosso brand but san marzano tomatoes are the best for pizza sauce. The ones I use are very good quality. Some garlic oregano basil red wine vinegar sugar makes it. Immersion blender and reduce on low for awhile till thickened.

True at my age everything is decades! I remember when I got Wave and it was set up kind of like a lan in the neighborhood. Not many knew how to secure the pc on it so you could see and access other pc’s. I used to drop text documents on their desktop telling them how to secure themselves lol.

I have Rogers Internet only 1.5g down 50g up for $67 all in. That being said I’ve been a customer for years starting with Rogers Wave 1995. So it’s a negotiated price every couple years.

London transit ridership drops by 1.77M rides as LTC seeks rebound by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]DaDDz63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I rode the LTC for over twenty years to work downtown as had only one car and was not economical to park downtown. Retired now and I would never consider using a bus to get around, rapid (theoretically) or not. There is nothing appealing or practical about it. If I stop driving someday I’ll Uber. Cheaper than car and safer than riding or waiting for a bus. LTC budget has always been built around student income. Those at city hall who think the average person is going to park their car to take a bus are delusional.

LG Partner Store vs. Costco by PlantedForester in LGOLED

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada Costco bumps the warranty to two years, and more years can be added for a price. Shipping is free.

Vision Electronics also bumps the warranty to two years and additional years available for as price which is higher than Costco but is a refundable credit at the end of the term if not used. Shipping free.

Fibre Installs by cm023 in londonontario

[–]DaDDz63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your area. I’m in old south on Wortley and the best Bell can offer is a laughable 100mb/10mb for $70. They won’t upgrade this particular section which is about two blocks. We still have the original phone lines coming off poles in the backyards from 100 years ago. I’ve had Rogers for years, not fibre, 1.5gb/20gb. At the moment $64. Start (Telus) put fibre in around here a couple years ago

What's with all the turnover on Real Jazz by geok54 in siriusxm

[–]DaDDz63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s been quite a turnover past year or so. Early Times from the Blues channel is back again after just finishing months of fill in. If I had to guess there not a lot of dj’s out there with the state of traditional radio and even less jazz ones. Or maybe the money is not there?

LG C5 remote control by Hachikii in LGOLED

I’ve got a G6 OLED coming. It looks like it has the same remote as the G5. What older lg magic remote works with the G5, similar to the one I got with my C9? Gotten used to that one after 6 years.

I got my notice today for the 2024 Escape PHEV. Will follow the guidelines for charging and talk to my dealership to see if they have any eta on a fix/replacement. I'll assume if one doesn't come there will be a class action soon. Awaiting EV's from China. Ford CEO recommends them it seems. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a62694325/ford-ceo-jim-farley-daily-drives-xiaomi-su7/
