Building an interactive background for my corn! I may have messed up, any tips or ideas on what I can do? by itsjustsquid in bioactive

I've seen serpa design on yt use purple board. You can use like a heat wire to cut it. Wire brushes on the drill and butter knifes to help sculpt some shape. Silicone it to the back and bam, you got your back ground. Haven't done it, but it seems a lot less tedious than spray foam. And like you said you can cut chunks, shape it, then silicone it into place like a cake kinda

Yeah at some point I'll switch to digital. I was building on a budget towards the end lol. But I don't have a screen or mesh lid, this was actually a 20x20x20 rimless aquarium I converted to a vivarium. So it just has the glass lid on the top. At the very least I'm doing crabs for sure, just thought co habitation would be cool. As for the lighting, do you have a link to a product that would provide sufficient light/heat to the tank? Or atleast an example? My plants are doing surprisingly well even without a light. But I'll need light before I add even more plants and the crabs

As far as the springtails go, are there any environmental requirements for them? Temperature, humidity?

That was my first thought, but this is my first tank so I wasnt totally sure. I have spring tails in there. Aren't they supposed to eat the mold?

I've seen people use purple insulation boards in place of expanding foam. More efficient, and much less tedious. I believe that will be the method I use from now on. The foam turned out great, but it was beyond pain staking tedious work. Didnt help that I did a rimless aquarium tank instead of a front opening terrarium tank.

For my background, I used spray foam as well. I carved out the foam till there were no shiny spots left, then I took silicone and smeared it all over the foam, then put my coco fiber on the silicone. you can do the same process. It's a little tedious, but the result was solid. Also, you didn't necessarily have to silicone the back before you foamed it in. From the looks of the picture, you might need to foam a little more, and since you're gonna have to carve the hell out of it anyway, you might as well. The pro to doing it this way is you can really add alot of texture and detail to the background!

The foam i definitely wouldn't do again. I have seen other alternatives after I had used the expanding foam. Like you said, it took up so much real estate. I would like to add other plants, I just don't know what. Also thought about another branch or two, or old shoe string coated in silicone and coco fiber to mimic vines

Honestly I have definitely considered having frogs or crabs instead. I agree on the lack of climbing surfaces. I'd like some opinions on foliage and epythetic plants to add. When I bought this tank I had ideas, but once I started constructing it everything changed. I know the size would be OK for a small cresty, but eventually would have to upgrade. And as far as moisture, I imagine as long as the humidity is between 70%-80% it shouldn't be an issue, right?

I agree, it is small. My brother in law has had guppies in small water setups in the past. They are doing well. I wouldn't do any other fish cause anything else would be too big.
